Description

General Description HENRY M. DIGGINS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO. u
llifliia'cvin` REFRIGERATOR.
specification forming part of'neaersratent N0.,99,s62, dated February 15, i870.
' I, HENRY M. DIGGINS, of Cincinnati, Hanrv ilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Refrigerator, of which the following is a specification:`
Nature and Objects ofthe Invention.
My invention relates to certain provisions i-n a refrigerator, whereby the same is divided into compartments, having diverse degrees or conditions of coldness, and wholly separated from one another, so as to be applicable for the preservation in the same apparatus of very different articles or viands, such as milk, eggs,
butter, fruit, fish, butcher meats, game, 85o.y
My invention 'further comprises a convenient arrangement of water-cooler. i
Iun'lh Reference to the Drawinge.v i
Figure 1 is a vertical section, in the line XX, 'of a refrigerator embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section thereof' in the line Y Y. Fig. 3 is atop View. Y
A B C C D E represent the inclosing-shell of my refrigerator, composedof double walls, withl some non-conducting substance interposed, as customary in such apparatus.
F G is an L-shaped inside jacketmor recepl tacle, which, extending along the back and ath wart the interior of the'refrigerator, divides the same into two compartments, H and I.
This receptacle preferably tapers downward, and is designed to receive iceor other refrigerants. This receptacle, forming two sides of the compartment H,- and but one side of the compartment I, maintainsan equal degree of frigidity or coolness in the several compartments.,v Access to the compartments H an l I is had through doors J.
Attachedto the receptacle F G, at its inner 'V or receding angle, is a metallic plate, K, which,
with that partof the receptacle-plate subtended "by it, forms a tank, L, for cold water. Y
M, M', and N are apertures for feeding ice and waterto their appropriate receptacles.
l 0 is a faucet, for drawing off waterfrom the tank. l This faucet may be at the outer end of a pipe, P, that is made to traverse the lower part ofthe receptacle. Y Q and R- are emptying-cocks for the receptacle and tank, respectively. y
The above-described arrangement alibrds -tWo separated chambers or compartments of; unequal coolness; and which may be used for different classes of articles. Thus milk, cream, fruit, and other delicate articles whichrdo not require to be frozen can be placedin compartment I, and such articles as fish, game, and y the like, can be placed in the compartment H.l be furnished with Each compartment may suitable `shelves S.
The entire interior surfaces or walls consist of galvanized iron or other suitablemetal.
The external shell or casing may be of timber Iclaim as new and of my inventionf l.` A refrigerator whose interior is divided into two compartments, Hand I, by means of the L-formed receptacle-partition F G, as and for the purpose set forth.` p
2. The described arrangement of the coldwater tank, L-receptacle F G, discharge-pipe P, and faucet O..
' In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
