The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

Be it known that I, JOHN DAVID BROWNE, of Madisonville, in the county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Construct-ion of: Seats and Desks for the Use of Schools and other purposes The nature and objects of the invention consist in so constructing-'the seats and desks that they may be readily folded tooccnpy less space.

y The following is a description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification.

a a are the pivots or fulcrums on B, which operate by sliding in the angular guide or grooves b b on the standard A.

By this method: offolding the Adesk does not rise high above the standards. It also looks and supports the desk.

The joint may be reversed, or the pivots may be placed ou the standard and the guides on the desk part. 4

Ou the upper part of the standard A a rib or tongue, e, is formed, which fits into a correspondingv groove, f, made in the back board D.

The sides B ofthe desk and the cleat d of the seat E have also ribs or tongues, ee, which titrinto eorresponding grooves, j', on the top of desk B and seat E.

This inode of connecting the parts together takes the lateral strain otf the "screws, rendering the desk firm,and preventsit from getting rickety by use.

What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The standard A A, provided with the angular guides `or grooves b b and b b', in combination with the folding desk B and seat E, provided with the pivot or fulcrum-pius a a and a a', constructed and arranged to operate-as shown and described, for the purpose speci` fied. JOHN DAVID BEOWNE.
