Be it known that I, JOHN A. EKEIiUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ToyHens and Chickens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an improved toy, and to this end the inven tion consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims,

In the accompanying drawings which illustrade the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings; Figure 1 is a view in side elevation showing the improved toy; and Fig. 2 is J. transverse vertical section taken on the line 00 m of Fig. 1.

- This'toy, so far as the general outline and the creatures that it is made to represent, may take various forms, but, as shown, it is made to represent a hen and chickens, the latter being located, one on each side of the hen.

The body representing the hen is indicated as an entirety by the numeral 1 and it is shown as made up of a pair of laterally spaced sheet metal plates stamped, or cut to form, by suitable dies, and spaced apart by an upper marginal strip 1. The figures representing the chickens are likewise stamped or cut to suitable form, but each thereof is made from a single plate 2. The plates 2 are rigidly connected to the lower rear portion of the plates 1, by tie brackets 3. The body representing the hen is provided with wings 4 hinged thereto at 5 and extended so that they overlie in part the plates 2 which represent the chickens. The figure thus made to represent the hen and chickens is supported by three so-callcd leg wheels (3--77, each of which, as shown, has six lcgs terminating in floor engaging foot portions. The leg wheel 6 is preferably lnade larger in diameter than the wheels 7, and it is arranged between and pivotally connected to the lower front portion of the plates l, by a short bolt 8, while the smaller wheels 7 are. pivotally connected, one to each of the plates 2 by small bolts 9.

To impart vertical oscillatory movements to the w ngs 4, in imitation of the [lapping of the wings of the hen, the wheel (3 is shown -as provided on each side with an eccentric 10, on which works the eccentric strap formed at the lower end of the rod '11. The upper ends of the rods 11 work through slots 12 in the plates l and bear loosely against the under portion of the under surface of the wings l. The numeral 13 indicates the draw cord or string attached to the front portion of the body representing the hen.

When this toy is drawn forward the leg wheels are rotated and only the lower two legs of the wheels are exposed to view, a

very close imitation of the walking movement is afforded. The rotation of the wheel 6, acting through the eccentrics and. eccentric rods will cause the wings t. to flap or continuously move upward and downward.

The device may be constructed and sold at small cost and affords an amusement toy for children.

The body representing the hen and also the bodies representing the chickens are, in the drawings, shown as made from sheet metal, but in practice, they may, as is evident, be cast when desired.

\Vhat I claim is:

1. The combination with a main body representing a hen or similar creature and of a body representing a chicken or similar creature, and said bodies being rigidly connected and spacedv laterally, of two leg wheels supporting said bodies for common traveling movcn'ients.

2. The combination with a main body representing a hen, or similar creature, and of the bodies representing chickens. or similar creatures, and said bodies being rigidly connccted and spaced laterally, of three leg wheels supporting said bodies for COITHTIOII traveling movements.

3. The combination with a main body rcprescnting a hen, or similar creature, and of the bodies rcprcscnting chickens, or similar creatures. and said bodies bcing rigidly connected and spaced laterally, of three leg wheels supporting said bodies for conin'ion traveling movements, wings hinged to said main body. and crank connections driven by one. of said leg wheels ftn oscillating said wings under traveling movement of the toy, sul'istantially as described.

4.
