UNITED STATES I ATEN T OFFICE.
ROBERT A. BACHMANN, OF NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT A. BAGH- MANN, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Newport, in the county of Newport and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Surgical Instruments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for applying disease preventive medicaments internally and externally to the genital organs of males, especially for the prevention of venereal diseases.
An object of the invention is to provide an instrument designed for containing and delivering a liquid or semiliquid for counteracting and nullifying the effect usually resulting from the contact of said male organs with diseased or contaminated organs of females, principally those infected with syphilis chancroid and gonorrhea, making it possible by reason of the provision for applying the medicament internally and externally, to prevent these venereal diseases by a simple expedient as compared with the methods now usually employed in which medicines are separately applied by two methods or steps and complicated apparatus.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of compact structure, capable of holding medicine, and having associated therewith a pliable tube, the latter of which is confined within a cap.
Finally an object of the invention is to provide an instrument of the character noted that will possess advantages in points of simplicity and etficiency, proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which Figure 1, illustrates a view in perspective of the device. Fig. 2, illustrates a fragment thereof with the cap removed. Fig. 3, illustrates a fragment of the device with the cap and tube in section. Fig. 4, illustrates a top plan view of the tube and con- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 606,558.
tainer, and Fig. 5, illustrates a detail sectional view with the container, tube and cap in assembled relation, the tube being on the nipple of the container.
In these drawings 7 indicates a collapsible container, which may be compressed for expelling its contents; said container having a nipple S, apertured to communicate with the interior of the container. The nipple has a shoulder 9, for engaging and holding a tube 10, which tube is preferably of rubber, sufiiciently rigid to permit its insertion in a male organ, and sufficiently pliable to permit its being coiled around the nipple, as shown in Figs. 3, 4t and 5. The container has a shoulder 11, preferably threaded to engage threads of a cap or cover 12, which confines the tube and guards the same. As shown in Fig. 3, the cap engages the end of the nipple and closes the opening therein against discharge of material therethrough. In Fig. 5, the cap is shown as pressing on the tube, which likewise serves to confine the material in the container.
I'Vhen the container is supplied with a medicament adapted to act as a preventive of disease as heretofore explained, the user may insert the tube and press on the container to force the contents through the tube, or the contents may be applied externally without inserting the tube.
I claim 1. A container for medicine, said container having a nipple and a threaded shoulder, a cover applied to the shoulder and forming a housing around the nipple, and a tube in the cover.
2. A container for medicine having a nipple, a tube coiled about the nipple, a shoulder on said container, a cover for the nipple and tube applied to the shoulder of the container and coasting with the nipple to confine the contents of the container.
3. A container for medicine having a nipple, a tube on the nipple and coiled thereabout, a cover for the nipple and tube, said cover being in engagement with the tube whereby the nipple is held closed.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT A. BACHMANN.
