To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL W. FISH, a citizen of the United States, residin at Plainfield, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safe or Vault Bodies, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safe or vault bodies, and particularly to that form of body adapted for use with rotary doors, the object of the invention being to provide an improved body which will have its jamb surface partly formed by lugs integral with the body and constituting a continuation of such jamb, thereby to do away with the necessity of providing an inwardly extending flange to form the amb.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved body having door holding means in the form of lugs integrally connected with the body at the inner side of the body front, thereby to form a con tinuation of the jamb so as to provide at those points where the door lugs are in engagement with the lugs of the body, a relatively large area of surface for the distribution of any explosive substances which may be forced into the door joint.
A further object of the invention is the provision of door holding or looking lugs secured adjacent to the jamb in an improved manner, and to reinforce these lugs by reinforcements or ribs located between the opposing faces of the lugs and the body, and reference is hereby made to my contemporaneously pending application Serial No. 537 ,6415, filed January 12, 1910, and my contemporaneously pending allowed application Serial No. 548,489, filed March 10, 1910, which show different forms of the present improvement.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front view of this improved safe or vault body; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view thereof taken in line 22, Fig. 1; Fig. 8 is a detail view of a portion of the body, illustrating in perspective one of the lugs and its rib; and Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of Specification of Letters Patent.

a portion of the body and a part of the door seated within the jamb.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the figures of the drawing.
The body 2, which may be of any desired form, shape and construction, is shown herein as of an integral structure, having an inwardly turned front 3 provided with a door opening 4, which is shown as of circular form and provided with a tapered jamb surface 5. Secured at the inner side of the front 3 and in position to form a continuation of the j ainb surface 5 is a plurality of interiorly extending lugs 6 integrally connected with the front and forming, as it were, a continuation of the jamb around the door opening wherever a lug is located. These lugs not only project from the front of the safe interiorly of the body, but they also project or extend inwardly of the doorway, thereby forming a shoulder 10 for positioning and limiting the inward movement of the door in a manner which will be readily understood. These lugs project somewhat into the door opening so as to be engaged by a similar set of lugs 7 carried by the door. The lugs 6 are, of course, spaced apart to form passageways for the lugs of the door. When the door is rotated into position by some suitable means, not shown, this door being usually carried by a suitable ring and hinge, not shown, the lugs of the door will be brought in rear of the body lugs.
For reinforcing the lugs, each lug is shown provided with a suitable reinforcement or rib 8 connecting the lug with the body and located between the opposed faces of the lug and body. These ribs are preferably, as shown, of less thickness or width than the lugs and are integral with the lu s.
From the foregoing it will be observed that the lugs in the present instance, instead of being located between the outer and inner surfaces of the usual jamb surface as heretofore, are located at the inner side of the front in such a manner that they form a relatively long j amb surface at intervals around the doorway, and thus avoid the necessity of providing an inwardly eX- tending flange to form the jamb surface, while at the same time it will also be seen that between each lug and the side wall of the body is formed a recess, so that when the body is made up of unmachineable metal, such for instance as manganese steel, it can be readily heat treated, since by forming the lugs in the manner shown the walls of the body are maintained substantially uniform, as the ribs do not interfere with this treatment, but merely form chambers or pockets therebetween.
I claim as my invention:
1. A safe or vault body having a jamb surface partly made up of inwardly projecting lugs located at intervals around the door-way, and means located in the rear of the wall forming the body front for reinforcing said lugs.
2. A safe or vault body having a jamb surface partly made up of inwardly projecting lugs located at intervals around the door-way, and ribs for reinforcing said lugs.
3. A safe or vault body having a jamb surface partly made up of inwardly projecting lugs located at intervals around the door-way, and ribs located between the opposed surfaces of the lugs and the body for reinforcing said lugs.
4;. An integral safe or vault body having interiorly located lugs integral with such body and prolonging the jamb surface, said lugs having a recess between them and the wall of the body, and reinforcing ribs for said lugs.
5. A safe or vault body having a circular door-way and provided around such doorway with a series of integral lugs projecting interiorly of said body from the front thereof, and reinforcing ribs for said lugs.
6. A safe or vault body having a circular door-way and provided around such doorway with a series of integral lugs projecting interiorly of said body from the front thereof and also projecting into the doorway, and reinforcing ribs for said lugs.
7 A safe or vault body having a circular door-way and provided around such doorway with a series of integral lugs projecting interiorly of said body from the front thereof, and reinforcing ribs integral with the opposed faces of the lugs and the body for reinforcing the lugs.
S. A safe or vault body having a circular door-way and provided around such door-way with a series of integral lugs projecting interiorly of said body from the front thereof and also projecting into the door-way, and
reinforcing ribs integral with the opposed faces of the lugs and the body for reinforcing the lugs.
9. A safe or vault body having a doorway and provided around such door-way with a series of lugs integral with the front of said body and extending interiorly of the body, and ribs for reinforcing said lugs, the lugs being of greater width than the width of the ribs.
10. A safe or vault body having a doorway and having integral with the front thereof at intervals around such door-way a plurality of interiorly extending lugs, said lugs projecting into the door-way and forming shoulders for limiting the inward movement of the door, and ribs located between the opposed faces of the lugs and body for reinforcing the lugs.
11. A safe or vault body having a front wall provided with acloor opening and having in the rear of such front wall a plurality of inwardly projecting lugs located at intervals around the door-way, the inner face of the front wall of the body intermediate such lugs terminating at the front face of the lugs.
12. A safe or vault body having a front wall provided with a door opening and having in the rear of such front wall a plurality of inwardly projecting lugs located at intervals around the door-way, the inner face of the front wall of the body intermediate such lugs terminating-at the front face of the lugs, and means for reinforcing said lugs.
13. A safe or vault body having a jamb surface provided with inwardly projecting integral lugs located at intervals around the door-way, and integral ribs for reinforcing said lugs.
14. A safe or vault body having a plurality of door locking lugs each united with the body by a rib.
15. A safe or vault body having a plurality of door locking lugs and ribs inte- V grally uniting the body with the opposed faces of such lugs. V
16. A safe or vault body having a tapered door seat terminating in a series of door locking lugs integral with the body, -and ribs, one for each lug, integrally connecting the lugs with the body.
