."lhis invention relates to safety razor blade holders for used blades and has for its Object to provide a .simple device of this character that will have a novel form of clamp for holding the blade, this clamp positively preventing independent movement of the blade while the latter is being used as a ripping knife in opening seams, etc. A further object is to provide a blade clamp that will permit of the blade being quickly. reversed when dulled.

l Referring now to the drawing, the character 10 designates a safety razor blade of the ordinary construction and being equipped with the usual circular openings 11 which permit of the blade being secured in a holder hereinafter described after be coming unfit for further service as a razor blade.

The blade holder comprising the subject matter of this invention consists of a plate 12 adapted to bear against one of the flat faces of the razor blade and having a plu rality of lugs 13 stamped therein adapted to project through the circular openings of the razor blade. The plate is bent upwardly at one end edge as shown at 14 and then at right angles to this upwardly bent portion as shown at 15 to form an arcuate lip which fits over the corresponding end of the razor blade. One longitudinal edge of the plate is bent upwardly as shown at 16 and then at right angles as shown at 17 to thisupwardly bent portion to form a substantially stralght lip which fits over one of the sharpened cutting edges 18 of the razor blade. Surrounding the stem 21 of the plate and extension 27 of the strip is a sleeve 29, this sleeve being of considerably greater length than the said parts and having its bore threaded as shown at 30 to receive the threads of the stem and extension. This sleeve when the extension and stem are threaded thereinto positively locks the plate and clamping strip from independent move engagement of the handle from the sleeve.

To insert a razor blade in the holder, the leading end of the blade is inserted underneath the arcuate lip 15 of the plate and the blade dropped into engagement with the plate, then moved rearwardly so that one of its cutting edges is engaged underneath the lip 15 of the plate. The lugs of the plate -when thebla de is in this position will be engaged in the circular openings of the blade and will project considerablybeyondthe blade. The sharpened leading end of the clamping strip is now inserted underneath the arcuatelip of the plate and the clamping strip dropped intov engagement with the blade, the sockets ofthe clamping strip engaging the lugs of the plate; When in this position the thread of the extension formed on the clamping strip and threads of the stem formed on the plate will be in alinement so that the sleeve of the handle can now be advanced upon the stem and exten sion until the leading end of the sleeve is in engagement with the peripheral shoulder of the stem and extension. To remove the blade, the above operation is reversed.
