Description

J. A. NELSON. BRICK HAM R. APPLICATION IIL Patented June 13, 1911.
I I M'Zaassasv JOHN A. NELSON, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
BRICK-HAMMER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 13, 1911.
Application filed May 6, 1910. Serial No. 559,842.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. NnLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of WVinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brick-Hammers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a brick hammer in which jaws are formed in its outer face which serve as a nail puller.
In the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an outer face representation. Fig. 3 is a section on dotted line a a Fig. 2. Fig. t is a transverse section on dotted line Z) 5 Fig. 3.
The hammer head 1 is of the usual construction and is connected to a handle 2. The outer face of the head of the hammer is formed with a recess 3 extending in the direction of the length of the head and adjacent the handle opening. The walls t of this recess extend beyond the face of the head and form a V shaped opening 5. The open end of the recess 3 is toward the point of the hammer.
Heretofore brick hammers have not been provided with nail drawing claws, and it was necessary for the brick layer to have two hammers. By my construction the hammer being provided with the claws which are located on the outside of the hammer head, they will not interfere with the ordinary use of the hammer.
I claim as my invention.
A hammer head having an eye and a pole portion, and having also a nail pulling adjunct which results from a cylindrical bore which is drilled obliquely into the pole portion and extends from the eye in such relation as to provide a downwardly tapering V-shaped opening in the front face of the hammer, forming a downward continuation of the eye, and having its edge portions overhanging the bore.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN A. NELSON. Witnesses:
A. O. BEHEL, E. D. E. N. BEHEL.
