IMPROVED DEVICE FOR HOLDING TOGETHER THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF '.B'UREAU'S AND OTHER ARTICLES OF FURNITURE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and part of the same.
what we called our elbow-bracket in the specification annexed to said patent, as to adapt the device to furniture that is constructed out of very thin material, and hence, which will not allow ofthe sinking of lthe plate Afrom which projects what We denominate our headed pin, below the surface of said material, withontfso cutting away the wood that there is not thickness Aenough in what reina-ins under the plates, to holdy the screws with which the latter is fastened in its place, our object being to make the device applicable to furniture, no matter how light or thin may be the parts ot' which it yis composed, which we have found -by'experience, is not the case with respect t lour device, as patented.
Description of the .Accompanying Drawings.` Figure 1 is a perspective View of our improvement ,on our elbow-bracket, in connection with our headed pin, projecting from its pedestal-plate, and oni-clamping hifurcated key, to hold the parts together, and Figures 2', 3, and 4, detached views of these three parts.
An inspection of 4the .drawing will show that instead of making the bottom ofthe section of the bracket, which is secured in its place by means-of the headed Y pin andfkey, of unbroken continuity on'its under snrface, or, in other words, in the same plane throughout the whole of this surface, we provide'a transverse recess, which exaetly tits over the plate from which the headed pin projects," and is just deepV enough to bring the `two parts outside it down to the-plane of the bottom ot' said plate, .y f
This modification enables us to screw the said plate. on the surface of the parts to which it isat-tached, and, therefore, avoids the necessity of sinkingit below the surface, in order to get a bearinglbeyoud its limits', for the bracket, as in the case of cui device as patented, and hence, accomplishes our purpose of adapting it as a. fastening to furniture in which there is notsuicieut thickness of -wood to allow ofthe sinking of said plate below its surface; and beyond'this advantage, we have found that the improvement-makes a firmer-istening than the device as originally devised by us, chiefly because of the ditiicnlty of making a smooth bottom to the recesses in which the headed pin-plates are inserted or sunk. Y y
For the. purpose of pointing out our invention in the manner prescribed by the statute, we denote the elbowfbracket by marking it A, the transverse recess in its lower surface, B, the. headed pin, with its pedesv tal or supporting-plate, C, and-the clamping bifurcated key, D.
Y Te claim, as our inventiouv Y Providing the elbow-bracket A with the transvers recess B, as herein described, for the purpose set forth. D. A. 'MULLANEL J. O. L. MURRAY.
