Description
F-BSTA. SMOKE BELL SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 27, 1910.
Patented June 6, 1911.
[n were for ANTONIO FESTA, OF HAMDEN, CONNECTICUT.
SMOKE-BELL surron'r.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 6, 1911.
Application filed December 27, 1910. Serial No. 599,424.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO FESTA, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Hamden, in the county State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Smoke-Bell Supports; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1 a side view of a two-armed gas fixture showing my improved smoke bell support attached thereto. Fig. 2 a side View of a similar bracketfor a one-armed fixture. Fig. 3 illustrates my invention applied to a wall bracket. Fig. 4 is a broken plan View illustrating the clamping device. Fig. 5 a side view of the same. Fig. 6 a broken sectional view of the outer end of one of the arms.
This invention relates to an improvement in smoke bell supports; that is, a device for supporting a bell over the burners of gas fixtures, and so as to protect the ceiling from smoke from the burners.
In the construction of gas fixtures the burners project outward to greater or less extent, and one object of this invention is to provide a support in which the bell may be readily adjusted so as to hang directly over the burner and also provide a support which may be readily attached to various forms of fixtures; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and claim.
As illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the device is shown in connection with a two-armed fixture, and the device consists of a long strip or rod of metal bent into U-shape with straight arms 2 and 3. At the center of the device is a notch 4, and secured to the rod adjacent to this notch is a clamping-plate 5. This plate has rearwardly extending ends 6 through which a pivot 7 exparticularly recited in the 1 tends so as to hinge the plate to the support.
This plate is bowed to form a recess 8 corresponding to the recess 4, and these in of New Haven and.
turn correspond substantially to the circumference of the tube 9 of the gas fixture. Through the outer end of the plate 5 a clamping screw 10 extends into the rod, and so that the outer end of the plate may be separated from the rod to permit the device to be engaged with the gas fixture, and then clamped thereto by turning the screw 10 inward. In the outer ends of the arms 2 and 3 are a series of screw-threaded openings 11 to receive screw hooks 12 on which the smoke bells 18 are hung. 7
For a fixture comprising a vertical pipe and a single arm, a device like that shown in Fig. 2 would be employed, this device being the same as that shown in Fig. 1 with one of the arms removed.
For a wall bracket, the device will be formed as shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings in which a straight arm 14 will be provided with a latch 15 near its lower end to engage with a horizontal pipe 16 of a wall bracket.
It will thus be seen that my invention is readily adapted for various forms of gas fixtures, may be readily applied and adjusted to various conditions.
I claim A smoke-bell support comprising a rod formed with a notch, a plate having rearwardly extending ends to set over said rod, a pivot extending through said endsand through said rod whereby the plate is hinged to the rod adjacent to said notch and to extend across the notch, a screw extending through the outer end of said plate and into said rod, whereby a clamp is formed for engaging the rod with a gas fixture, the rod bent upwardly and outwardly forming an arm which is provided with a series of threaded openings, and a screw-hook entered into one of said openings upon which a smoke bell may be hung.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANTONIO FESTA.
