UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
RANSOM E. BAKER AND JAMES F. SCOLARO, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.
DANCING TOY provements in Dancing Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference'being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to dancing toys and has for its object to provide a toy of such class with means in the manner as hereinafter set forth to permit of the figure being raised or lowered whereby it can be made to clog lighter or heavier when the toy is operated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a dancing toy in the manner as hereinafter set forth and with means to constitute a sounding box so that the dancing steps of the figure of the toy will be heard when the toy is operated.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a dancing toy which is simple in its construction and arrangement, readily operated, amusing, strong, durable, conven iently adjusted to regulate a light or heavy dancing step and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly 111 section of a dancing toy in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the adjusting plate for the support of the toy figure, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the sounding box.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 denotes a base having fixed to its upper face at one end a block 2 and having its other end provided with a circular disk shaped portion 3 having a handle 4 projecting there- Specification of Letters Patent.

from. The body portion of the base 1 may be shaped or ornamented in any suitable manner so as to improve the appearance thereof.
Fixed at one end upon the top of the block 2 and projecting therefrom and over the base 1 is an elastic member 5 constituting what may be termed a spring board and which has its other end provided with a circular disk 6 formed with a handle 8. The disk opposes the disk-shaped portion 3 and secured to and depending from the lower face of the disk 6 is a sounding box 7 of a height so that the sounding box 7 will be spaced from the disk 3 to enable the member 5 to vibrate when the handle or finger piece 8 is struck or shifted by the operator. When the toy is used the handle 4 is grasped so as to maintain the base 1 stationary and the member 5 vibrated by the operator through the medium of the operator shifting the handle 8.
Arranged over and adapted to be engaged by the disk 6 when the member 5 is vibrated is a dancing figure including a body portion 9, loosely jointed limbs 10 and loosely connected arms 11. The dancing figure is suspended over the disk 6 through the medium of an angle shaped support 12 having its lower end provided with an inclined exten sion 13 having an angular terminus 1 1 fixedly secured in a socket forming member 15 by a set screw 16. The socket forming member 15 extends through the bodyportion 17 of an adjusting plate, through the member 5 and is fixedly secured in the block 2. The lower portion of the socket forming member 15 is provided with a threaded opening 18.
The adjusting plate includes the body portion 17 which is formed with a longitudinally-extending slot 18 and further includes a depending flange 19 and a ,yertically-disposed flange 20 formed at its top with a seat 21 which supports the inclined extension 13. The adjusting plate 17 is mounted for sliding upon the top of the member 5 with the flange 19 depending in parallelism with respect to the block 2 and formed with an opening 22 through which extends an ad justing screw '23 having a thumb piece 24:. The adjusting screw 23 extends into the block 2 and engages with the threads of the opening 18. The adjusting screw is provided with a pair of collars 25 between which is arranged the flange 19 whereby when the screw 23 is moved inwardly it will carry the adjusting plate therewith and shift the support 12 so as to elevate the dancing figure and if the screw 23 be moved outwardly, the support 12 will shift in the opposite direction, thereby lowering the dancing figure. The shifting of the support 12 is due to the engaging of the inclined extension 13 of the support by the seat 21 of the flange 20. The slot 18 constitutes a guide for the adjusting plate and the walls of the slot prevent the lateral shifting of the plate when adjusted. hen the dancing figure is elevated, the clog will be lighter and when lowered the clog will be heavier as is obvious. \Vhen the finger piece of the member 5 is operated the figure is caused to dance in time or rhythm to the beats and during the dancing of the figure it is obvious that the steps will be heard owing to the engaging of the feet of the figure against the disk 6 which constitutes the top of the sounding box 7 What we claim is 1. A dancing toy comprising a vibratory member, a base, a block for connecting one end of the member to the base, a dancing figure arranged over said member and operated thereby, a support for suspending the figure over said member, said support having an angle shaped extension, means for connecting the extension to the block, and an adjusting device engaging with said extension for elevating and lowering said figure thereby making the clog lighter or heavier.
2. A dancing toy comprising a vibratory member provided with a sounding box, a dancing figure arranged over said member and adapted to be operated when said member is vibrated, a support connected to said figure for suspending it over said member and provided with an angle shaped exten sion, and shiftable means engaging with said extension for elevating and lowering said support thereby making the figure dance light or heavy.
3. A dancing toy comprising a vibratory member, a dancing figure arranged over said member and adapted to be operated when the member is vibrated, means for suspending said figure over said member, said means provided with an inclined extension, and an adjusting device engaging with said extension for shifting said support thereby elevating and lowering the figure to make it dance light or heavy.
4. A dancing toy comprising a base provided with a handle for holding the base stationary when the toy is operated, a vibratory member provided at one end with a sounding box and having its other end connected to and spaced from the base, a dancing figure arranged over that end of said member provided with a sounding box and adapted to be operated when said member is vibrated, an angle shaped suspension means for said figure, said means provided with an inclined extension, and an adjusting plate slidably connected with the base and adapted to engage said extension for shifting said means thereby elevating or lowering said figure to regulate the dancing steps thereof.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
