My invention relates to an apparatus for printing roll paper, and has for its object to provide an apparatus of that class which may be attached to aicutter stand and'held yieldingly'against a. roll of Wrapping paper, so that an advertising card may be printed on the paper as it is drawn oli' of the roll. ln accomplishing these objects, I have provided the improved details of structure prescntly described and pointed out in the ap# pended claim, reference being had to the acciinuianying drawings, in which i Figure I is a perspective view of an apparatus constructed accordingl to my invention and mounted upon a rollepaper' stand. This is a decided advantage, as many occasions may arise when it is unnecessary to print the paper, for eX- ample, when the store keeper desires to remove quite a number of yards of the paper for placing it upon the shelves.
39 designates springs, one of which is carried by each side of the casing and connected with the rod of the inking roller 2l in such manner that said roller is yieldingly `pressed against the distributing roller 23 and the latter pressed against the typo roller l5.
When the apparatus is iu use, the roll web is passed twice over the roller 8 and out beneath the cutter blade 4r, so that when the web is unwound from the roll, the wraps on the roller 8 will serve to break the revoluble movement of the roll and prevent slack in the web between the roll and roller 8. Ink is then applied to the pad on the inking roller and the printing apparatus islowered onto the portion of the roll web that is passed over the roller 8, and the rod springs 30 arranged above the projecting ends of rod 1G, so that the printing apparatus is held yieldingly in contact with the paper web. Wlhen the web is drawn from beneath the cutter blade its frictional contact with the flanges 18, of the printing roller, moves said roller around and causes the print-ing face to move over the distributing roller 23, a continued withdrawal of the web bringing the type face 17 over the roller 8 and producingan impression of the type face on the paper web. y
By providing a distributing roller'ot1 less diameter than the type roller, and an inking rollers of less diameter lthan the distributing roller, the ink may be spread to better advantage, because of the greater number of revolutions each smaller roller makes in contact with its larger cooperating member.
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with the cross-piece of a paper-roll stand, of a bracket detachably connected therewith, a casing disposed near said bracket, a shaft pivotally connecting said casing and bracket and having its ends extending beyond said bracket, printing apparatus arranged within said casing, including a shaft disposed near the outer side of said casing and extending outwardly be' yond the ends of the same, pair of rodsprings having corresponding.inner ends pivotally connected with said bracket and normally engaging the lower side of said first named shaft, said rod-springs having their free ends normally engaging the upper side oi' the second named shaft to force said casing downwardly, said pairs of rod-springs being held under tension by the first named shaft and adapted to be readily disengaged from the second named shaft by aV lateral movement, to permit of said casing being swung to assume a substantially vertical position, said pairs of rod-springs being adapted to be placed upon reverse sides of said shafts for forcing the casing upwardly whereby the printing apparatus is held out of engagement with the paper, a pair of brackets detachably connected with said` cross-piece, and a platen disposed between and pivotally connected with said pairs of brackets for holding the paper in position for engagement with the printing apparatus.
