To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SQUIRE T. DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mayfield, in the county of Graves and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Skirt-Marker, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of the present invention to provide an improved skirt marker of that type in which the skirt is to be disposed and held against a non-yielding edge which enables the person using the device to mark the skirt with an ordinary piece of tailors chalk. One of the essential requirements of such a. device is that the member against which the skirt is to be held, shall be vertically adjustable so that the skirt may be marked at any desired and proper height, at its lower edge portion, and the present invention aims to provide an extremely simple and readily adjustable member for this purpose.

In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a perspective view of a skirt marker constructed in accordance with the present invent-ion, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.

The marker of the present invention embodies a threaded standard which is indicated by the numeral 5 and upstands from the center of a suitable base 6 which is preferably secured to the floor by screws or other suitable fastening devices. At its upper end, the standard 5 is reduced and threaded, as at 7, and a platform, indicated by the numeral 8, is formed in its under side, axially, with a threaded socket 9 into which the reduced threaded portion 7 is screwed, it being understood that the platform is in this manner rigidly supported at the upper end of the standard. It will be observed from the drawings that this platform is preferably circular in outline, and as will presently be pointed out, the party whose skirt is to be marked, stands upon this platform.

As heretofore stated, a member is provided against which the portion of the skirt to be marked is held during the marking operation, and this member is supported for vertical adjustment by a spider, the head of which is embodied in a sleeve 10 which is internally threaded and is adjustably fitted upon the standard 5. From this head radiate arms 11 of the spider and at a proper distance from their inner ends, the said arms are bent to extend directly vertically, as at 12, and at their upper ends they are formed each with a lateral finger 13 and an upstanding finger 14, these arms being preferably of T-form, cross section, or in other words, being reinforced by a web 15, of which the lateral finger 18 is a continuation. The member above referred to and serving as a rest for the portion of the skirt to be marked, is in the nature of an annulus, indicated by the numeral 16, and the said annulus is disposed upon the lateral fingers 13, and at its inner periphery against the upstanding fingers 14, suitable securing elements 17 being engaged through the said fingers 1 1 and into the annulus. The outer peripheral edge of the annulus is beveled, as at 18, so as to afford a comparatively sharp or acute marking edge 19.

From the foregoing description of the invention, it will be readily understood that the party to whom the skirt to be marked is being fitted, stands upon the platform 8 with the lower portion of the skirt draped 'over the annulus 16 which is then adjusted, by rotating the spider, so as to bring it to the desired height or in other words, to such a height that when a piece of tailors chalk is passed over the skirt along the edge 19 of the annulus, the skirt will be marked entirely around, to properly locate its lower edge.

What is claimed is:

In a skirt marker, a base, a threaded standard projecting up from the base, a foot plate supported at the upper end of the standard and vertically immovable, a spider having its head adjustably threaded upon the standard and having its arms radiating from the head and extending vertically, and
