Description

@initrd tahe @wat diiiirt.
Letters .Patent No. 99,313, dated February A1, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN WATER-ELEVATORS.
The Schedule referred. to in these Letters Patent and' making part of the s'ame To all whom it mag-l con-cern Be it known that I, W. G. HAMILTON, of Milton, in the county of Rock, and State Of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Water-Elevators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full', clear, and exactdescription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing,- forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in water-elevating apparatus, whereby it is designed to vsimplify and improve the ppaiatus patented to me, March 2, 1869, No. 87,408; and
It consists in an arrangement of the tilting-spout, which receives the water from the buckets, so that it will be restored after the buckets pass by it, by gravitation, thereby dispensing with all restoring-apparatus.
Figure l represents a sectional elevation, and Figure 2 represents a plan view of my improved apparatus. y
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A and B represent the buckets, having curved lugs C attached to their sides, to which chains D are connected, and which work over grooved pulleys Eon a crank-shaft, carrying the said buckets down on one side with the open' ends downward, so as to fill and turn 'right end up at the bottom, and be carried up on the other side to dischargeinto the tilting-spout F. Thus far the arrangement is similar to that of the previous patent above alluded to.
The present invention consists in so pivoting, or other wise arranging the spout F, that it will be heaviest at the discharging-enmand in providing the stop G to prevent it from being tilted, so far as to carry the heavy end H beyond the centre on the upper side.
By this arrangement, the spout which is tilted down- -Ward at the end toward the buckets, by the buckets whengthey pass down after emptying, Vwill be instantly restored by gravitation to the position for discharging the water ofthe next bucket, as soon as the emptied bucket has passed-from contact with the said spout.
This arrangement dispenses with all necessity for Witnesses J. M. GREENMAN, J. L. FULLER.
