Description

To ALL WHOM IT MAY oouonnrnA GER-SHOM MOTT, OE` BIG RUN, QHO;
v Letters Patent N'o. 65,763, datedYJt/.ne 11, 1867.* i
"'IMPROVEMBNT .IN WATERBLEVATRS .iilge cigehule referto: to im time Enters "ateut 2mn making gurl ngtjgezime.
Be it known that I, GERSHOM, MoTT, oi' Big Run, in the county of Athens, and in the State of Ohio, have invented ce1-tain new and useful improvements in Wnter-Elevators; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being 'had to the accompanying drawings, and vto the letters ot' reference marked thereon. l -V In the annexed drawings, making part oi' this speeication, A representso box which is made of any snitable dimensions and placed ove.l the top of the well. Lying aci-'oss this box, and provided with proper bearings, is a shaft, H, said shaft having a crank-handle `at one or both ends by means of .which tis revolved. B' represents a Awheel, which is provided with four arms C '0, which said arms are made forked at their ends, as
seen. This/wheel is seem-Qd uponv the shaft Hand revolves with it. D represents a chain with links long enough to reach from the forkof one arm to the fork of the next arm to it.Y This chain is madev long enough to reaeh down into the water of the well, and is' provided with two buckets, which are placed equidi'stant from euch other.
The ujheel B is provided with a spout or trough, F, and the box A is also provided with a trough, G, as seen.
When the Wheel B is revolved, the forks of the arms `C carry the links 'around with them, and the links of course carry the-buckets E E. When tho buckets reach a position on the top of the wheel, thetroughl" is always immediately under them, and when the bucket is tipped over the trough receives it end pours it into the trou-gh G', 'from which it runs out of box A' into `any receptacle placedV to receive. More buckets may-be used upon the chain, of course, and more troughs rmay also be used, but'it'is not desirable to increase the weight o. `water to be drawn up by using too. many buckets. i 4
Having thus fully described my invention,' what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
. The arrangement of the chain D, provided on its inside with buckets E, with the wheel B having arms C G, and trough F, substantially as and for th'epurpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th.day of February, 1867.
GERs'HoM ,Morin lWitnesses: l Es'ruun LADD,
W. W. WICKH'AM.
