Description

i mf/ N-PETERS. FHTO LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C t To all lwhom. 'it 'may concern;
I ttniudcswat @am aan.
"annoncen ununlenaor LAWRENCE, KANSAS.`
Leens Patent No. 107,126; dated september 2'?, 1810.
IMPROVEMENT INELEVATRS.
The Schedule 4referred. to in these Letters-Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, Tneononn H. Runlcnn, of
" Lawrence,.inthe "county oDouglas and State of Kansas, have `invented a new-and Vuseful Improvement iu Elevators; 'and hereby declare that the followingis a-full, clear, and exact description therefof, which `will enable others skilled 'inthe art to `make and use thesame, reference being had .to the accompanyinggdrawing forming part of this specification.` i w This invention` relates to improvement-s in elevat ors, and consists in arranging the the articles elevated by the buckets are dumped, so that, previous ,to the dumping, the uppei` end will swing back under the bucket, so as to `insure the re- "ceivingof all the coutentsof the bucket, and then swingout of the'way of the downward movement of' the bucket in `time to letv it pass without obstruction. r U e Figure 1 is a sideelevation" of'my improved ele` vator,.and l Figure 2is a freut elevation of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate correspom'ling parts.
" lhc spout-or chute A is jointed at the `lower end B, and the upper end is mounted on the bar or rod O,
the ends of which are arranged ,in curved guides D.
` This rod passes through the .slot E of l a lever, F, pvoted at G, and projecting at the` upper end into `the path of a eam,H, arranged on the shaft I of' the `upper elevator-drum.` l l spout, onto which Thegiavity of' the spout A, rd C, and the lever` F, causes the. spout to fall back at theupper end under thevbuckets, so as to receive allthe contents thereof, and the cam H is soiarranged that just prevous to the arrival of' the bucket in the downward movement to the upper end of the spout, it will strike the upper end of the lever Fand throw the, spout up .out of theway of the bucket.
In this case the buckets'are so placed on the chain that one will pass over with each revolution ofthe f cam, kbutit is evident that if more are appliedmore cams may also be usedto throw up the spoutas often as a Vbucket passes. i
This arrangement saves the great loss due to the falling back ot a great` part of .the contents of the buckets when the spouts are arranged as in the com mon way.
Having thusdescribed my invention,
Patent- 1. The spout A,`pivo`ted at its' lower end to the frame, and connected at its upper end,jwith the slottedtilting-leverli,and slotted curved guides D, arranged to operate as and forthe purpose specified. i 2. The combination, with the drum-shaf'tl of the elevator, and with the swinging spout A of the cam H, lever F, and rod C, all substantially as specified.
