Letters Patent No. 99,302, 'dated .February 1, 1870.
IMPROVE!) PRINTERS CHAIR.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMAsA J. FINcH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Printers Chair; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a side View of my improved chair.
Figure 2 is a detail rear view of the middle .part of the same.
Similar letters of' reference` indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its VVobject to furnish an improved chair for printers use, which shall be so constructed as to allow the sitter to have as free a movement in every direction as when standing; and
It consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the chair. as hereinafter more fully described. l
A are the legs of the chair, which are connected by rounds in the ordinary manner.
Upon the lower ends of the legsA are cut spiral grooves, upon which are screwed the upper parts of.
the double-cone spiral springs B, the lower parts of which rest upon the floor, and which allow a side movement to the chair.
To the upper ends of the legs A is attachedaboard, C, in the centre of which is inserted a nut to receive the screw D, the upper end of which is attached to the cross-bar or board E, so that the seat of the chair may be raised and lowered, as desired.
F is the seat of the chair, which maybe wood, cane, or upholstered, and which may be provided with a back, or not, as may be desired.
To the under side of the seat F, and to the upper side of thecross-bar. or board E, are attached staples, through which is passed a rod, G, to hinge the seat F to the cross-bar or board E, which will allow the seat to have a free forward and backward movement.
Ilhe ends of the rod G are bent backward and up ward, to form stops 4H, to prevent the seat F from rocking back too far. 4
I are coiled springs, one end of each of which is attached to the seat F, and the other ends are attached to the cross board E.
By this construction, the chair will allow movements, similar to the movements of the compositor-s body when reaching for and picking up type.
Having thus described my invent-ion, l
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The printers chair above described, so constructed that the sitter may turn and reach in all directions, consisting of spring I, hinge G, stops H, board E, screw D, seat F, support A yO, and springs B, all arranged as set forth.
rlhe above specication of Iny invention signed b v me, this 3d day ,ofSeptembcn 1869.
AMASA J. FINCH.
