Description

J. D. GDNEY.
TROUSERS HANGER. APPLIOATION FILED 110v. 22, mos.
Patented May 23, 1911.
We ass/6a JAMES D. CONEY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
TROUSERS-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May :23, 1911.
Application filed November 22, 1906. Serial No. 344,663.
To all whom it. may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES D. CoNnY, a citizen of the Unit-ed States, residin at De troit, county of Wayne, State of Mlchigan,
have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Trousers-Hangers, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and
' exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates in general to garment supporters and more particularly to trousers hangers.
It is desirable that trousers should be sus pended from the bottoms of thelegs in order that their weight will remove wrinkles and the bag at the knees.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a hanger for trousers adapted to be applied to the bottoms of the legs without creasing or wrinkling the portions engaged by the clamping members of the hanger.
A further object of my inventioniis to provide a trousers hanger which will be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture and efficient in use.
The embodiment of my invention herein disclosed may be generally described as comprising two pivotally connected clamping members, each member composed of a single piece of wire bent to form an open rectangular frame supported by upwardly projecting portions of the wire, a metallic strip bent at its ends around the ends of each wire frame, a fabric surrounding each strip and secured thereby to the wire frame, means for pivotally uniting the suspending portions of the wires of the two frames, a pivoted hook by means of which the hanger is suspended, and means for forcing the two clamping members together to grip the interposed portions of the legs of a pair of trousers.
My invention will be more fully described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which the same is illustrated as embodied in a convenient and practical form, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view; Fig. 2 a plan view of the under side of the hanger; and Fig. 3"an clcvational View looking from the right in Fig. l.
The same reference charzwters are used to designate the same parts in the several figures of the drawing.
Two clamping members A and A are provided, each made of a single piece of wire bent to form an open rectangular frame supported by upwardly extending wires.
Reference characters a and a indicate the ends of the open frame of each clamping member, such ends being united by an intermediate portion a. The bottom of each frame is formed by portions a and a arranged parallel to the portion a. The portions (1* and (1. are continued upwardly across the frame to form supporting portions a" and a. The upper ends of the supporting portions a and a of each of the clamping members are bent around a pivot pin B about which the two clamping members are adapted to swing.
Pivotally connected to the pivot pin B is a hook I) by means of which the hanger and the garments supported thereby, are suspended. v
The open wire frames of the clamping members are slightly inclined to the suspending portions, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, to
correspond to the usual inclined edges at the bottom of the trousers.
The clamping members are provided with strips of fabric C and C secured; to the open wire frames on the inner surfaces thereof. In order that the strips of fabric may be secured to the open wire frames, metallic strips D and D are provided around which the fabric extends. The ends (Z and d of each of the metal strips are bent around the ends a and a of the correspondingclamping member. The metal strips therefore serve to securely connect the fabric to the inner surfaces of the open frames of the clamping I members so that the portions of the trousers engaged by the hanger will not be wrinkled or creased. The metal strips within the fabric serve to form extended surfaces to engage the trousers thereby producing sufficient. friction to tightly hold the trousers within the clamping jaws of the hanger.
A loopE surrounds the supporting wire portions a and a" of the two clamping members which may be adjusted to force the ]tlWS toward each other, owing to the supporting wire portions 0" and a diverging downwardly as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Indcntations c are provided which are engaged by the ends of the loop E to retain the latter in adjusted positions. The intermediate portions of the open frames of the clamping members (,livcrgc as shown in Figs. 2
. *2. A trousers hanger comprising two pivand 3 in order to form a space to receive 'the seams of the trousers.
. In the operation of -myimproved hanger the clamping members are separated so as to receive the bottoms of the legs of a pair of trousers, after which the loop E is drawn downwardly thereby forcing the jaws to .gether and tightly engaging the interposed trousers. The hanger is then supported by the hook b u on a rack or clothes hook. The hanger may be easily disengaged from the trousers by moving upwardly the loop E so as ,to permit the jaws to swing a art. The fabric supported atthe inner sur aces of the open frames of the clamping members protects the trousers from being creased and also serves to more securely retain the trousers between the jaws of the hanger.
From the foregoing description it will be observed that I have invented an improved trousers hanger which, though simple in wish to be understood aslimiting myself thereto, as I contemplate changes in form,
I the proportion of parts, and the substitution 'of equivalents, as circumstances may suggest, or render expedient without departing from the spirit of my invention.
"Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A trousers hanger comprising two pivotally'j connected clamping members, each member havingan open frame, a strip of metal secured to the open frame of each member, a fabric supported by each strip of I metal and united thereby to the correspondmg open frame, and means for relatively ad usting said members.
otally connected,clamp1ng members, each -member composed of a single piece "of wire bent to form an open frame, a strip of metal secured to the open frame of each member, a fabric surrounding and supported by each strip of metal and therebyunited to the corresponding open frame, and means for relatively adjusting the clamping members.
3. A trousers hanger comprising two pivotally connected clamping members, each member composed of a single piece of wire bent to form an open frame, and to form upwardly projecting-supporting portions, a pin to which the upwardly projecting portions of'the clamping members are pivotally secured, a suspending hook pivoted to said pin, a fabric secured to the open frame of each member, and means for relatively adjusting said members.
4. A trousers hanger comprising two pivotally connected clamping members, each member composed of a single piece of wire bent to form an open-frame, and to form upwardly projecting supporting portions, a pinto which the upwardly projecting portions of the clamping members are pivotally secured, a suspending hook pivoted to said pin, a strip of metal secured to the open frame of each member, a fabric supported by each strip of metal and united thereby to the corresponding open frame, and means for relatively adjusting said members. v
5. In a trousers hanger having metallic jaws; the combination therewith of a cover for the inside of said jaws, said cover being provided with pockets at its extremity into which the ends of said hanger jaws are seated.
6. In a trousers hanger having arched metallic jaws, the combination therewith of flexible metallic strips having their ends turned around the ends of said jaws and extended from 'end to end of and between I said jaws.
In testimony whereof, I Sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
