useful Improvements in Nail-Pouches';"and- I do declare the following to be a full, clear,

and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the part of this specification.

My invention relates to nail pouches and more particularly to a nail pouch for use in combinationwith carpenters aprons, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this class which may contain a quantity of nails and is provided with a slot through which the nail shanks may drop, so that they are suspended by their heads until ready for use, and with mouths through which the heads of the nails may be withdrawnas will presently be more fully described.

A further object of the invention is to provide adjustment for the slot members, so that the device may be adapted for nails of different sizes.

A further object of the invention is to provide the improved details of structure hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a view of my improved nail pouch, illustrated asapplied to an ordinary carpenters apron. Fig. II is an enlarged perspective view of the pouch, a part of the outer attaching flange being broken away to illustrate the interior construction. Fig.

III is a plan View of the pouch and a portion of the apron. Fig. IV is a cross sectional view on the line IVIV, Fig. II. Fig. V is a cross sectional view on the line VV, Fig. II. Fig. VI is an enlarged detail view of the adjustable slot members.

Referring more in detail to the parts 1 and 2 designate respectively the inner and outer slot forming members of the pouch which are preferably constructed of sheet metal and bent at one edge to form the attaching flanges 34. These members are preferably bent to substantially a U-shape and are fixed to an apron 5 and pocket 6 respectively by fiat binding members 7-8,

through the medium of bolts 9 which extend through the inner andouter slot members, the materialoft-he apron and pocket, and binding members, as illustrated in Fig. IV.

At the inner end of each of the members 1 and 2 is a lip 10-11, one of which is pro vided with slots 12 and the other with bolts 13 which project through the slots 12 and have heads 14; that bind against the face of the slotted lip, so that the bolts may be tightened to hold the parts firmly together.

Immediately below the lips 10 and 12, the material of the body members 1 and 2 is cut away to form the notches 15 and 16,

which, when the parts are united, form a mouth, through which the nails may be withdrawn.

Secured between the lips is a plate 17 which extends downwardly, back 'of the mouth 17 and is curved inwardly, so that when the head of a nailis lifted thereagainst, the head will be forced upwardly through the mouth 17 to facilitate with- 'drawal.

I prefer to curve the edges of the members 1 and 2'outwardly as illustrated in Fig. IV, so that a channel 18 is formedfor receiving the'heads of the nails, so that they may be relievedsomewhat from the weight of the contents of the pouch and their movement along the metal slot members may be accomplished with less resistance than if it were necessary to move the heads of the nails to be withdrawn against the weight of and displace the other nails contained within the pouch.

In using the device, one of the slot forming members is attached to an apron,bag, or

other carrying member, by the flat binding member and bolts, and the other slot forming member attached to a pocket in the same manner. The two members are then brought together and united through the bolt and slot mechanism at their upper ends, the width of the slot being regulated according tofthe size of nails which it is desired to use; for instance if large nails or spikes are to be used a wide slot is provided by spreading the slotted members and fixing the "lips in such adjusted position, whereas if small nails are to be'used the parts are brought closer to-' gether with the lips attached to each other in that position by means of the bolts 13. With the pouch adjusted for the proper width of the slot and the pouch filled with nails, the shanks of the nails in the. bottom of the pouch will drop through the slot and be suspended by their heads. When it is desired to remove one of the nails, the projecting portion of the shank is grasped and the nail lifted upwardly to the mouth 17 which is of sufiicient width to allow the head to pass therebetween; the plate 17 serving to guide the head of the nail outwardly, so that it will not engage the lower edges of the attaching lips.

It is apparent that the pouch may be easily and quickly adjusted for difierent sizes of nails and that the nails may be more quickly withdrawn therefrom than from the ordinary apron pocket.

Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is 1. A nail pouch comprising curved body members, spaced apart to provide a slot therebetween, said slot being enlarged at the ends to form openings through which nails may be withdrawn, said members having overlapping lips at their upper ends, bolt and slot connection between said end lips, and means connected with said body members for inclosing a pouch chamber, for the purpose set forth.

2. A nail pouch comprising a pair of rigid members having overlapping lips at their ends, one of said lips having slots and the other having bolts projected through said slots to provide adjustment of the rigid members, said members being spaced by the bolt and slot connection to provide a nail slot therebetween, said nail slot being enlarged at the ends to provide openings for the withdrawal of nails, and plates carried by said lip bolts and depending over the enlarged slotted portions, the free ends of the plates being curved away from the slots, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. A nail pouch comprising a fabric body, a rigid member secured to said body by a back plate and bolts, a second body having a rigid member secured thereto by a back plate and bolts, both of said rigid members having overlapping lips and bolt and slot connection therebetween, said members being spaced to provide a slot and said slot having an enlarged mouth, the rigid members being curved outwardly at their slot forming edges to provide a channel, and a guide plate carried by one of said members and extending over and spaced from said mouth, substantially as set forth.
