I DISINFBGTING CABINET. APPLICATION FILED vJULY 26,1910.

WILLIAM CASPER EUBBIGH'TER, or PANORA, IOWA.
DISINFECTING-CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent. t Patentd May 16, 1911, Application med July 2s, 1am. serialy No. 573,947.
`To all whom it may concern:
resident of Panora, in the county of Guthrie f and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Disinfecting-Cabinet, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to disinfecting cabinets, and it has for its object to provide one which may be manufactured at very little expense, for use by physicians, nurses, manufacturers, druggists, and also by bankers for disinfecting money.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for introducing and removing the disinfecting gas without inconveniencing those who are in charge of the device.
Still other objects of the invention will appear in the following complete description.
In this specification I will describe the preferred form of my invention, it being understood that the scope of the invention is delined inl the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming, a part of this specification, in which the ligure is a ,perspective view of the cabinet, a portion being broken away to disclose the interior.
By referring to the drawing, it will be seen that a cabinet is provided with a base 5, a ceiling 6, side walls 7 and a rear wall 8, a plurality of* shelves 9 being mounted in the cabinet, these shelves 9 having openings cut therein,to permit the circulation of the gases. The openings in the lower shelf, 10, are commanded by valve members 11, these valve members being disposed under the shelf 10 and being'adapted to close the said openings in-the same manner that openings in hot-air-registers are closed. The valve members 11 are operated by a handle 12, the shank ofwhich projects through an opening in one of the side walls 7. An outlet pipe 13 is provided, having a branch 14 at the top,` leading into thecabinet at its upper portion, the bottom of the outlet pipe 13 being connected with the interior of the cabinet belowthe plane .of the shelf 10. The outlet Vpi e `13, below the4 branch 14,4 is `commande by a valve 15, the branch- 14 being also commanded by a similanvalve 16. A-
tray 17 is disposed` on the floor of the cabinet, anda tilting cu 18 is disposed in the ,cabinet above the-said tray. 17. The tilting cup 18 has trunnions 19, which are journaled in the walls of the cabinet, one of the trunnions 19 projecting through the Wall of the cabinet and being provided with Ia handle 20,by which it may be rotated. A pump 21 is provided, having outlets 23 and 24, the outlet 23 being connected with the interior of the cabinet below the shelf lO, and the outlet 24 being connected withthe interior. of the cabinet above the said shelf 10. Suitable valves .25 are provided, one for com- I manding the outlet 24 and one for commanding the outlet 23, with which the out-let 24 communicates. v
' In using the invention, formaldehyde is deposited in the tray 1-7 and potassium permanganate is deposited in the tilting cup 18. The materials to be disinfected are then disposed On the shelves 9, after which the door is closed. This having been done, the cup after the gas has been given an opportunity to circulate freely in the cabinet, the valves 15 and 16, which have been closed, are Yopened and air is forced into the cabinet by means of the pump 21. By this means, all the disinfecting gases are driven out by the pump through the outlets 13 and 14. By means of the valve members 1l, the gases may be prevented from rising above the shelf 10` and may be driven out of the cabinet through the lower terminal of the outlet pipe 13. Having thus described my invention, I
Patent 1. A disinfecting cabinet having a doorway, a door for closing the doorway, a -tilting cup supported in, and operable from without, the cabinet, `a tray disposedin the cabinet below the tilting cup, an outlet pipe connected with the cabinet, a valve commanding the outlet pipe, and means for forcf ingair into the cabinet.
in the shelf, a member disposed through a members for operating them, a tilting cup vsupported in the cabinet, below the shelf and commanding the outlet pipe.
3. A dsinfecting cabinet having a door- 18 is tilted by means of thehandle 20, and,
claim as newt and desire to secure by Lettersl 2. A disinfecting cabinet having a door-4 way,` a door for closing the doorway, a shelf with openingstherein, mounted in the cabi-y l net, valve members for. closing the openingsy operable from without the cabinet, an outlet,
plpe connectedwith the cabinet, and a valve Awall in the cabinet, secured to the valve way, a door for closing the doorway, a shelf with openings therein, mounted in the cabi' net, valve members for closing the openings in the shelf, a tilting cup disposed in the cabinet, below the shelf, means for supporting the cup andy for tilting it, two outlet communicating means connected with the interior of the cabinet, one disposed above and the other disposed below the said sheli` valves commanding the outlet communieating means, respectively, two inlet communicating means, and means for forcing a fluid through the inlet communicating means. p
In testimony whereof I have signed my 15 name to this speciica-tion in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
