Description

@wat @Attire HENRY F. HILDEBRAND, Oli BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
Letters Patent No. 99,190, dated January 25, 187.0.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part o! the same.
To all who'm it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEXRY F. HILDEBRAND, of
'the city of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore, in
the State of' Maryland, have invented a new and improved Donble Wash-Board; and I do hereby declare that the following is a lull, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to' the letters of' reference marked there, on.
Drawing.
The drawing is an elevation of my improved board, a. section of one of lthe side pieces having been removed, to show'an endview of the rollers, and the manner of connectingr the same to the frame-work.
This invention relates to improvements in washboards; and
It consists in the construction and combination of `the parts of which it is composed, in such a manner as to afford a durable and economical board, adapted for use oneither side, as will be more fully hereinafter described. y
A A are the side pieces of the board, and are provided with .vertical grooves a a, as clearly shown in the drawing.
B B' are cross-bars. The lower bar B' supports the rollers D, and is secured to the uprights A A, within the grooves a a. The upper cross-bar B is mortised,
or otherwise secured to the upper ends of' A A.
C is the cross-head. 1t may, for convenience, be provided with a slot, c,` for holding the soap.
D D D are rollers, whose ends have bearings within the grooves a a, and are arranged, one above another, over the cross-barB.
The board presents the same appearance upon both sides, and hence may be used upon the one side, or upon the other. A
The advantages are, that it is cheap and convenient that it washes cleaner, and requires less strength; that both sides being open, the water percolates between the rollers, which serves to cleanse the clothes; that its wear upon the clot-hes is notgreat; that it will not easily get out of repair, but that it affords a strong and substantial board.
The various parts composing my invention are combined in such a manner as to prevent the lodgement or collection of dirt in any portion of the board.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A. wash-board, consisting of the side pieces A A, cross-bars B B', and rollers D, the board being adapted for use on either side, all constructed as shown and described.
1n testimony whereof', I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses, at the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, this 26th day of' November, 1869.
