Letters Patent No. 99,h43, dated January 25, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN DESULPHURIZING-OVENS.
The` Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same lI, JOHN C. BREWSTER, of the city, county, and State `of" New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Desulphurizing-Ovens, of which the following is a specification.
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
Description of the Accompanying Drawings.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved oven. Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same. vFigure 3 is a view ofthe air-tube F.
General Description.
A is the hase of the oven, which is constructed, preferably, of a circular forni, and is provided with the necessary furnace and chimney.
B is the top of the oven, constructed of an arched shape, to deflect the flames and heat upon the ore, and provided with a hopper, D, for introducing the ore.
The revolving table C rests upon the anti-friction rolls f f, which play in the grooves d e, the former situated in tthe base ofthe oven, and the latter in the under side ofthe table; and motion is imparted to it through the shaft at, the pinion b of which gearswith The surface of the table is composed of a stratum of r'e-cla-y,
which is laid within the flange or rim ou the' circumference.
'.Ihe tube F, through which the air is admitted to the interior of the oven, is situatedimmediately above the surface` of the table, and is provided withfa series of apertures, ,and a series of fingers or wipers, j, so that, as th'e table revolves beneath it, the air is thrown down through the apertures of 61e tube upon the ore, while the latter is kept in motion and coustantl y stirred by the action of the wipers.
The supply of ore from the hopper D, regulated by the valve `J in it, falls upon thevcentre ofthe revolving table, where it is spread by the joint action of the wipers and current-s of air, and gradually worked off the edge of the table., and falls into thechannel g. A series of sweeps, 7i h, attached to the underside of the table, then lact upon it, to discharge it from the orilice G.
Claims.
I claim, as'my inventionl. The combination, with a furnace provided with a 'revolving table, of the mechanism for operating the
