Mmm! w iiilivit WILBERT B. SPEICE, OF PAYNE, OHIO.
BOX-LID SUPPRTER.
seriez.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, VVILBERT B. Srnrcn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Payne, in the county of Paulding and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Box-Lid Supporter; and I do hereby decla-re the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to ,make and use the same.
The invention about to be set forth and claimed pertains to a new and useful lid supporter for boxes or other receptacles, for instance cigar boxes and the like, whereby the lids thereof may be supported at various inclinations; and while the lids are so disposed, price tags may be disclosed conspicuously to observers.
The main object of the invention is the production of a device of this design, comprising a simple, efiicient and economical structure, consisting of an embracing member (which is pivoted to an upright support by a link member) for a box lid.
A further object of the invention is to compose the embracing member from a single piece of flat metal, bent twice upon itself in order to form parallel fingers to engage opposite faces of the lid.
Vith these and various other objects, among which the invention embraces further features and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter described and shown, and then pointed out in the appended claim, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the supporter as applied to a cigar box, showing the lid thereof almost completely opened. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the lid partially opened. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporter detached from the box. Fig. Llis a detail view of the embracing member. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the annexed illustrations l denotes a cigar box having the usual lid 2. Straddling the rear portion 3 of the box are the forks 4, of one member 5 of the upright support 6. The other member 7 of the upright support 6 is provided with a single fork or finger 8, which engages the outer face 9 of the end of the box, and also coperates with one of the forks i to securely hold the upright support in position. The two members 5 and 7 of the upright support are bent toward one another, as at 10, and are Specification of Letterslatent.

provided with registering apertures 11, through which the pivot 12 penetrates. Connected to the pivot 12 is a link 13, to upper free end of which the embracing member 14tis pivoted, as at 15. This member 1li is formed of a single piece of metal, bent upon itself, as at 16, to form the finger 17. One of the parts 18 forming this finger is bent at right angles, as at 19 to provide the lng or ear 20, which connects to the pivot 15. llfhiie the other part 18 is curved upon itself to form the supplemental finger 21, which together with the finger 17 engages opposite faces of the lid 2, in order to hold it at the desired angle. rlhe space between the forks l and 8 is wedge shaped, so as to frictionally engage the end of the box, in order to lend rigidity to the upright support. When the upright support is forced down upon the end of the box, the upper portions of the members 5 and 7 are outwardly pressed against the heads of the pivot 12, thereby producing friction, sufficient to hold the link 13 at the desired angle.
From the foregoing, the essential features, elements and the operation of the device, together with the simplicity thereof, will be clearly apparent. The price tag 22 is held under the finger 17, and against the face 23 of the lid 2, as clearly shown.
Having thus fully described the invent-ion, what is claimed as new and useful, is
A box lid supporter, comprising an upright support formed of a strip of sheet metal bent upon itself to form two side members, the side members being held against one another' at their upper portions, a pivot pin extending through them for holding them in such a position, one of the side members being formed with spaced forks adapted to straddle the back of a box adjacent the end of the lid, the other side member constituting a single fork adapted to engage on the outside of the end of the box, a link pivotally mounted on the pin ad jacent the upper ends of the said side members, and a sheet met-al member7 which is bent upon itself to form a finger of double thickness, thus constituting means adapted for holding a price tag, said sheet metal member being again bent upon itself in order to terminate at its end into a finger of single thickness, which together with the finger of double thickness constitute means for engaging the boX lid, said last menname to this specification in the presence of tioned membei` terminating at its other end two subscribing Witnesses. into an ear entendinor at a rivht an e thereto, and a pivot pin onneetirg the gright an- WILBERT B' SPEICE' 5 gie extending ear and the link7 as and for Witnesses:

In testimony whereof I have signed my C. B. CHEN.
