CEMENT sum oonsrnucrroni.
To all/whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HARLEY H. JONES, a citizen of the United. States, residing 'in Ever'ett, in the county ofMiddlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Cement Sink Construction, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the representing like parts.
The present invention relates to cement drawings sink construction, and is embodied in improved means for protecting and finishing the edges of sinks, trays, and the like, es-
pecially where two separate articles are to ering to close the space between the surfaces of the adjoining walls, and prevent water and dirt from" Working in between them.
In accordance with the invention, the complete structure is provided witha supplemental protecting stri of metal which has a horizontal portion a a ted to extend over the upper surfaces of t e adjoining articles from one outer edge to the other, and wings turned at a right-angle to extend downward at opposite sides of the meeting surfaces of the two articles' Figure 1 is a perspective View of a set of wash trays and a'sink constructed and set in accordance with the construction embodying the. invention; Fig. 2, is an enlarged .sectional detail showing the construction of the metallic protecting portions.
- In manufacturin the sinks and trays of cement,-they are mo deed in one piece, and in order to protect the exposed upper edges of the walls they are providedwith strips of sheet metal a, the upper surfaces of which. may be of any desired shape, while the edges are bent downward and inward, as shown at af In constructing the articles, these Specification. of. strips" are placed in the bottom oft-he mold with the portions a projecting yard, so that when the materlal is poure. into the mold, the interned portions wilLgb'eccme embedded therein, the up er edges of the walls thus being covered wit a protecting portion asink of sheet metal.
When, as shown in the drawings, for example, is to be set adjacent to a set ozt trays, itis desirable to cover the adjoining line between the two, in order to prevent dirt and water from working in between, and
also to improve the appearance. For this.
purpose a supplemental. covermg and protecting member is employed, said member.
having a horizontal portion 6 adapted to extend from the outer surface of the rear wall to the outer surface of the front wall,
so as to cover the entire length of the joint. This posed to form an adequate protectin cover for the crevice between the outer sur aces of the walls, these wings standing parallel-to the walls. v
In the construction shown, the" metallic a, where it is to be applied to a side wal which is to be set next to the side wall of another article, is bentto form a longitudinal recess a extending along fromone end of the wall to the other, the bent por-. tion projecting down into the body-0f the cement, as shown in Fig. 2, and affordin apocket for the wing b of the protecting rotecting member is also j rovided with own-turned wings I) suita ly dis strip 2). The two wings b of the protecting strip are thus set into the recesses or ipockets. .90 completely covering the joint between-them,
a at the top of the adjoining wal time at the same time making a neat finish and aii'ordnig adequate protection. While this structure is not essential, 1t has the advantage of firmly holdin the protecting strip,
and forming a fit a equate to exclude all dirt and'water, the top of thedividingwall being smooth and easy to keep clean.- Phat I claim is:
The combination with sinks or trays adapted to be set with walls adjoining each other; of metallic protecting surfaces consisting o't'strips of sheet metal having in turned edges embedded 1n the sides 0 the nails; and intermediate, longitudinal channels along the top, the portions formiag the channels being embedded in the tops of the name to this specificetion in the presence of walls; and a U-shaped connecting strip of two subscribing witnesses.
sheet metal extendm over themd'oimn 7 portions of the traysfwiththe side p ortioi HARLE1 J '5 of the U inserted-in said channels, substan- Witnesses:
tially as and for the purpose described. W. E. COVENLY, In testimony whereof, I have signed my JAQ'. J. MALONEY.
