Description

May 1, 1923.
A. G 5. PETERSON TILED SINK AND DRAIN BOARD Filed Feb. 8, 1923 following is a ALFRED o. s. rs'rnnsois, or Los anGnL s, CALIFORNIA.
{DI LED SINK AND DRAIN BOARD.
' Application filed February 8, 1923. Serial No. 617,706.
To all whom it may concern:
Be "it known that I, ALFRED G. S. PE- TERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tiled Sinks and Drain Boards, ofwhich' the specification.
This invention relates to plumbing in stallations and more particularly to tiled sinks and drain boards.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a substantial, thoroughly sanitary and practical sink and drain structure of tile finish.
Another object is to provide a flat flange sink and tile finish structure, and to provide a tile finish in which there is combined glazed and unglazed tile for advantages obtained and set' forth hereinafter. 7
Other objects and advantages will be made manifest in the following specification of an embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a plan of the improved sink and a horizontal section of a wall contiguous to the sink.
Fig.2 is a vertical transversesection of the smk and a portion of the wall. Fig. 3 is a perspective of one of or apron tile blocks. Fig. 4 is a perspective of one'of the rim tiles.
Fig. 5 is a perspective of one of the back corner filler tlles.
Fig. 6 is a view of a corner trimmer. Fig. 7 is a perspective of one of the runner trimmers. i
The present invention ture employing a sink 2 of suitable size and preferably havin rim flange 3 which is adaptedto be'supported upon box or frame top elements 4: and 5 which may form portions of a sink box the face or support 6 projecting from or built in any.
consists of a struc-.
a flat outwardly directed face of the wall is finished up upon or manipulated contiguous to the sink, are of unglazed exposed surface, and at the same'time to provide along the front edge or corners of the sink when exposed, glazed apron tile members against which wearing apparel of persons contiguous to the sink may rub without chafing. Accordingly, after the sink2 has been installed upon its box or frame the flange 3 is covered witha border and binder plastic material 10, and upon the flange there is directly applied a bordering frame cornice bf trimmer tile sections 11 shown in Fig. 7. These preferably have a quarter cylindrical exposed unglazed face 11 andjthe concaved back 11 to increase area of contact and form a mortisefor reception of the plaster 10. A series of the runner tiles 11 are arranged along the front flange and along the end flanges and are complementary toright angular corner trimmers 12 which have acurved quadrantal inner face 12 with a cross sectional curve corresponding to the section of the runner trimmers 11. Along the back flange 3 of the sink there isapplied aseries of filler tile pieces 13, preferably un-, glazed, and these finish oif the joint between the lower face or wall tile 7 contiguous to the back flange 3 of the sink.
Along the front edge of the sink, and along exposed ends of the sink when such is the case, there is laid upon the top of the cement strip 10, while it is plastic, rim forming tiles 14 shown as having top flat faces with inner rounded corners and side faces adapted to be matched against the contiguous corners of the tile sections 11. The rim tile sections'l t are shown as provided with. ofi'set bottom surfaces forming a shoulder 14. The exposed faces of the rim tiles 14;- are preferably an lazed.
Along the vertlcal front portion of the plastic material 10 there is-applied an apron ,or rail series of tile sections 15 having glazed front or exposed faces and edges, and these are shown as of channel cross section with their rounded exposed longitudinal corners.
While the front apron tiles 15 are prefe ably glazed so as to eliminate wear upon wearing apparel of persons standi in that this character of tile is less likely to fracture by chipping when engaged in vari ous metallic or other art utensils and articles handled around the sink. Y
At either or bothends of the mounted and tiled-in sink there may be providedend drain boards B, preferably having a top tiled facing.
From the above it will be'seen that l[ have provided a tiled sin-k structure of substantial and practical construction and which provides a thoroughly sanitary structure.
Further embodiments, modifications and variations may be resorted to within the spirit of the invention as here claimed.
What is claimed is: 1 1
1. In combination, a sink having a flange,
I a supporting frame for the flange, a plaster 'base laid on and along the flange and its frame, a tile framing laid on the flange cor-' ners and said base, and an apron tiling along the vertical ortion of the said base.
2. In com ination, a sink having a flange,
a supporting frame for the flange, a plaster base laid on and along the flange and its frame, a tile framing laid on the flange corners and said base, and an apron tiling along the vertical portion of the said base, the apron being of glazed tile.
: 3. n combination, a 5 having a flange,-
neonate posed surfacing of the framing being unglazed.
4. In combination, a sink having a flange,
' a supporting frame for the flange, a plaster base laid on and along the flange and its frame, a tile framing laid on the flange corners and said base, an apron tiling along the vertical portion of the said base, and arim tile strip between the framing and apron and abutting each. h
5. In combination, a sink having a flange,
' a supporting frame for the flange, a plaster base laid on and along; the flange and its frame, a tile framing laid on. the flange corners and said base, an apron tiling along-the vertical portion of the said base, and a rim tile strip between the framing and apron and abutting. each, said rim tile being nngla-zed. 6. In combination, a sink having a flange, a supporting frame for the flange, a plaster base laid on and along the flange and its frame, a tile framing laid on the flange corners and said base, and an apron tiling along the vertical portion of the said base, the apron tile being of channel section and having rounded top and bottom corners.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
