FARMING IMPLEMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARROLL STEWART, a

citizen of the United States, residing at` Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Farming Implement; and I do here by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to a farming implement and has for its object to provide a device of this character which will enable one man to do approximately the work of two in cultivating the soil.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings Figure l is a fragmentary plan view of a cultivator constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig'. 2 is a side elevation. Fig'. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through lthe beams of the cult-ivator or shovel.

Referring to the drawings 1 designates an axle which is provided with Gif-sets 2 forming eyes 3. Between the two eyes a vertical projection 4 is formed. The vertical projection 4 and the oli-sets 2 are all formed integrally with the axle l. On either end of the axle l is a bearing` wheel 5. Inserted in the eyes 5 are vertically disposed bolts 6 on which is mounted the draft beam 8 of the shovel or cultivator. It will be seen that these cultivators or shovels have pivotal actions and each one is independent of the other. It will also be seen that one man can manipulate these two as readily as he could a single implement and thus double the re- Specification of Letters Patent.

sults of his work. Inserted in the vertical projection 4 is a tongue 9 which is provided with braces 10. The braces 10 are connected with the tongue as at ll and with the axle as at l2. The oHi-set 2 and the vertical projection 4 serve as shoulders to prevent the movement of the brace 10 where it engages the axle 1. On either side of the tongue is a connecting member 13 provided with an aperture 14 to which a draft animal is connected.

It will be seen that the invention is simple, inexpensive and etlicient and that it is a valuable eeonomizer of manual labor in cultivating land.

I desire it to be understood that. the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be modified or changed without departing from the spirit of this invention.

Vihat is claimed is An implement of the class described, comprising in combination an axle having its central port-ion bent to form an arch, supporting wheels mounted on the free ends of the axle, the axle intermediate the loop and its ends being bent to form longitudinally extending eyes arranged at right angles to the arch, a tongue having one end located within the arch, braces each having one end connected to the tongue, in advance of the arch and the other end connected to the axle intermediate t-he arch and an eye, and cultivators pivotally connected to the longitudinally extending eyes.
