PLATE-LIFTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 27, 1911.
Patented May 2, 1911.
Serial No. 605,101.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE SEEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oak Hill, in the county of Jackson and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plate-Lifters; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in plate holders and devices for lifting hot dishes, lids, etc., and comprises a simple and etlicient device of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showin the application of my invention, and Fig. is a view showing the device folded.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a wire which has two parallel arms B and B, each of which terminates at the end of a bail-shaped portion C in a plane at right angles to the two parallel parts, forming means for engagement over the edge of a plate or dish. Said arm B is bent to form an eye F and thence has a laterally extendiug part G engaging one of the eyes H and 1 formed near the end of the arm B. A second wire, designated by letter N, is bent upon itself and twisted together forming, with the rearwardly returned parallel portions N, a handle, the ends of which wire N are bent to form eyes 0 through which arms of the Wire pass, as shown, and bent in substantially rectangular shape with portions pivotally connected to the eyes H and F and said wire, after being bent to form said rectangular portlon, has portions Q,
bent parallel to each other and thence at right angles, forming a terminal member R which is adapted to engage over the plate at locations diametrically opposite that engaged by the first referred to member.
In operation, the bail-shaped member C is caught over the edge of the plate to be lifted and the other bail-shaped member adjusted to the other edge of the plate, it being noted that the device is adapted to tit plates of different diameters and, by lifting upon the handle, the dish. or plate maybe raised.
In order to reinforce and hold the bailshaped member C rigid, the parallel portions Q bear frictionally against the cross When not in use, the parts may be folded back upon themselves as shown.
Vhat I claim to be new is A folding plate lifter comprising two wires, one of which is bent to form a bailshaped hook to engage over the edge of a plate and provided with parallel shank portions, the end of one of which has formed therein two eyes, the other shank portion bent to form a single eye, thence bent at right angles to engage one of the eyes in the opposite parallel portion, a second wire bent to form a substantially rectangular outlined portion pivotally mounted in two of said eyes and provided with a handle, one side of said rectangular outlined portion bent to form a terminal member for engagement with the edge of the plate.
In testimony whereof I hereunto atlix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE SEEL.
Witnesses James R. Fnnns, AUeUs'rUs D. EVANS.
