To all whom. 'it may concern:
Be it knowln that l, PETER STAYERT, a citizen .of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Instep- Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This vinvention relates to an instep support, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a support that can be easily placed in a shoe for firmly supporting the instep or arch of a foot, whereby the shoe can he comfortably worn without injuring the foot.
Another object of the invention is'to combine leather and metal in such a form that it will yieldably support the instep of a foot within the shoe.
A further object of the invention is to provide an instep support that can be adjusted through the medium of a detachable filler block.
l attain the above objects by a mechanical construction thatwill be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and
reference will now be had to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the instep support as mounted in a shoe, the shoe being shown in dotted lines, Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan of the support, Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same, F ig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the support, and Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view of the same. y
A support in accordance with this invention comprises an irregularly shaped base piece l', the base piece being shaped to fit,

The cover piece 6 has the marginal portion throughout at one side securedto the base piece l, and also has the marginal portion of its other side for a portion of its' length secured to the base piece 1. The last-mentioned side marginal portion does nothave the intermediate part thereof secured to .the coverpiece 6.' The end marginal portions of the cover piece 6 are secured to the base piece 1. The cover piece 6 is secured to the base piece 1 by a line of stitching as at 5, or it may be secured by any other suitable means. The unattached portion of the cover *piece G in conjunction with the base piece 1 provides a pocket 8 and in the pocket is dctachablyl mounted a filler block 9, said block being wedgeshaped in cross section andl having one straight edge at the side edge of the base piece 1 and the other edge rounded, whereby the filler block will snugly fit between the pieces l and 6. The ller block can be made of one or. more pieces of leather suitably connecte-d together, or of rubber, fiber, felt or any yieldable material.

The filler block 9 can be made of various thicknesses, consequently the fitter of a shoe can immediately place a filler block within the pocket 8 of the support that will properly su port the instep of a shoe.
The ip 7 serves functionally as a handle for holding the support while the filler vblock is removed, besides assisting in supporting the side of the instep.
The support is made of light and durable flexible leather and can be made of various sizes.
What I claim is 1. An Yinstep support'comprising a base piece, acover piece having a part of the marginal portion thereof connected to a part of the marginal portion of said base piece, the unattached portion of the cover piece in conneotion with the base iece providing a pocket at one side of said base piece, said r 'cover `piece having the unattached portion thereof extended to provide a lip, a yfiller block detachably mounted in the pocket, and means including a metallic strap adapted to maintain said support in an arched position.
