HOUSTON MAGKENZIE, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DOOR-CASING CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 18, 1911.
Application filed November 28, 1908. Serial No. 464,833.
To all lwhom t may concern:
Be it known that I, 'HOUSTON MAOKENZIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, countyl of Cook, and State of Illinols, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Casing Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in means for securing tiles to wooden door oasings or other wooden parts used in connection with tiles in building' construction.
The object of'my invention is to provide a simple and efficient clamp adapted to be used as a bond between tiles and Wooden parts adjacent thereto.
further object of my invention is to provide a modified form of clamp to be particularly adapted for securing wooden parts together.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view, my invention consists in such a novel construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing's forming a part of this specification and in which,
Figure l is a horizontal transverse section showing the application of my improved clamp and a modification thereof in the wall of a building, Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of two forms of clamps particularly adapted to bonding wood to Wood, Fig. 4 is a view showing a portion of the clamp similar to that shown in Fig. 2 but with a modified form of end, and Fig. 5 is a perspective View of a clamp especially adapted for bonding tiles with wood.
Referring now to the drawings 1 indicates a bond or clamp preferably of sheet metal having a rectangular body portion 2 and serrated ends 3 disposed perpendicular-ly thereto.
The form of bond or clamp shown in Fig. 3 is similar to that shown in Fig. 2 except that perforations 4 and an offset 5 are provided, the former adding to the efficiency of the bond when plastering is applied after said bond is driven into position and the latter being a necessary provision when the door jambs or casings are wider than the thickness of the wall to which they are to be secured. The portion 6 of the bond shown in Fig. 3 is perpendicular to the perforated body portion and to the off-set portion 5, the serrated ends 7 being perpendicular to said portions and parallel to each other. The form of end shown in Fig. 4 may also be used in the bond shown in Fig. 3, if desired, in certain classes of work.
The modified form of bond shown in Fig. 5 consists in a small rod pointed at each end and bent into a form similar to the bond shown in Fig. 3. This bond is preferably used for securing casings or studs to tiles, the same being far superior to nails for this purpose.
Vhen'onee secured in position with the foregoing described bonds door jambs and casings will remain permanently in position, it being well known that nails give way after a lapse of time and cause the door jambs to bind the door.
In Fig. l the door 9 is hinged by means of the hinge 10 to the door jamb or casing l1, and said casing is secured to the stud l2 by means of the bond l as shown. As many bonds l may be used as desired. A stud 12 is secured to the tiles 13 by means of the bonds 8, the plastering 14, wood molding 15 and novel facing 16 being applied after the parts are securely bonded. Ihis construction is an example of the various ways in which the bonds may be used in securing wood to wood and wood to tiles in building construction.
Vhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable forms of my improved clamps or bonds, I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be many modifications of the same comprehended within the scope of my invention.
Having described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
As an article of manufacture a bond formed of wire and comprising an end por tion, a portion bent at right angles thereto, a portion bent at right angles to the last said portion and parallel With said end portion, a portion of considerable length at right angles to the last said portion and a s to the last name to this speeiiication in the presence of eing parallel tWo subscribing Witnesses.

second end bent at right angie said portion, said end portions h and extending in the same direction, said yends being sharpened and all, of said portions being in the saine plane, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my Copies ofrthis patent may be obtained for ch, by addressing. the Commissioner of Patents,-
