To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ONAS P. PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hallock, in the county of Kittson and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cable Hooks, of
which'the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cable hooks and more particularly to a hook adapted to be which- I Figure 1 is a plan of the hook upon a. cable. Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Fig; 3 is a sectional perspective.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
2 is a cable stretched from side to side of the river and upon which the hook is operated from the boat.
3 is the handle of the hook formed of a straight pole having its lower extremity bifurcated as at 4 to permit the pole to obtain a purchase on the cable.
5 is a co-acting member having a hook 6 therein open on one side, secured to the handle 3 at an angle of approximately 30 degrees as at 5 and further held in position by means of a brace.
To use the device the operator in the boat grasps the hook by the handle and places the bifurcated extremity-of the same over the cable holding the handle in a perpendicular position, he then inclines the handle in the direction of the member 5 which depresses the same when the cable is picked up by the hook 6 in said member and by bringing the handle again into a perpendicular position the boat is pulled toward the hook;
the. hook is then slid along the cable until it is necessary to make another purchase on the same when the operation is repeated and in this manner the boat is towed across the stream against a current that would otherwise be more difficult and in some cases impossible to overcome.
In landing a boat with the hook the operation just described may be repeated with the hook upon the cable at a point upon the shore or as near the shore as desired thus holding the boat against the landing.
'hat I claim is A cable hook comprising a handle having a bifurcated extremity, a member having a hook therein secured to said handle and a brace 7 connecting the aforesaid members.
