WILLIAM KOHN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
PICTURE-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 18, 1911.
Application filed June 8, 1910. Serial No. 565,810.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM KoHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in picture hangers and has for its object the provision of a picture hanger of simple construction and efiicient in its operation.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of the preferred form of hanger shown in position on a wall molding. Fig. 2, a view of the upper end of one of the suspension rods, and Figs. 3, 4, and 5, detail views of one of the securing posts.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises an upper plate 1 bent into hook form to adapt it to engagement with a wall molding 2. Plate 1 is provided with perforations 3 adapted to receive suspension rods 4 having angularly turned heads 5 at their upper ends. Rods i are rigidly secured to member 1 by means of side extensions 6 which are bent thereover as shown in Fig. 1. The lower ends of rods 4 are adjustably secured to the back of a picture by means of posts 7 having screw projections 8. Each of the posts 7 is provided with a longitudinally and upwardly flaring opening 9 adapted to receive one of the-rods 4 and with a set screw 10 traversing opening 9. By this construction it will be observed that the lower ends of rods 4 may be readily secured to the back of a picture and the hook plate cured to the back 1 positioned over a molding 2 by manipulation of the picture and without necessity for climbing up on a stepladder. By means of set screws 10 and the upwardly and longitudinally flaring opening 9 in posts 7 the angularity of the picture to the wall may be adjusted and the height and level of the picture may be adjusted by means of set screws 10.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction this is capable of variation or modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A picture hanger comprising an upper plate bent into hook-form and having perforations and lower side extensions; headed rods bent near the heads and passed through said perforations and secured by bending said side extension thereover; and means for attaching the lower ends of said rods to a picture, substantially as described.
2. A picture hanger comprising a hook member; rods rigidly attached to said hook member; threaded posts adapted to be seof the picture and pro vided with upwardly and longitudinally flaring openings adapted. to receive said rods and set screws in said posts traversing said openings, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' WVILLIAM KOHN.
Vi itnesses HELEN F. LILLIS, JANET E. HOGAN.
