Description

H. ANDERSEN.
STRAINER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 6, 1910.
Patented Apr. 11
THE nmzms PETEPS co.. WASHINGTON, n. c.
FTQ.
STRAINER.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 11, 1911.
Application filed September 6, 1910. Serial No. 580,579.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANSINE ANDERSEN, a citizen of Denmark, residing at Coulee City, in the county of Grant and State of ashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strainers, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to strainers and is primarily designed to construct one which may be easily and quickly taken apart for cleaning after the same has been used.
It further provides utensil in which the strainer is located, the frame being provided with a central opening, whereby the liquid strained may be collected and led into vessels of smaller openings than the strainer.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a vertical cross section of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, parts being broken away to disclose the specific construction of the strainer; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the vessel in which the strainer is placed; Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the strainer frame; Fig. 5 is a detailed view taken along line 55 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the outside vessel having a large opening at thetop and a small central opening and spout 2 at the bottom. An inwardly projecting flange 3 is provided at the top of the outer vessel 1. To the outer peripheral surface of the vessel are secured a plurality of supporting members 4, by which the said vessel may be supported in larger vessels.
A strainer 5 is provided to fit within the outer vessel 1, said strainer comprising a body of foraminous material, said body having vertical sides and a flat bottom, the edge of the body being reinforced with the mem her 6, said member being flanged outwardly to overlap the flanged portion of the outer vessel 1. This member 6 is preferably made of metal and has stamped out of the vertical portion and at intervals, engaging or stop members 7.
A frame is provided for strengthening the strainer comprising two members 8 secured crosswise to each other, said members being U-shaped, and having upper terminals deflected or bent to a horizontal plane. Each bent terminal 9 has stamped out therefrom a lock member or lug 10, said member being provided with slot extending in a horizontal plane and partially the width of said lug, whereby the bent terminals 9 and the supporting members t may be locked together. This frame member is detachably secured to the strainer by slidably engaging the frame members under the engaging members T. On the outer portion of the frame member and adjacent to the bent terminals are pressed or stamped out proj ections 11, whereby the frame member may be sprung into position and the said projections 11 brought to engage the lower edge of the inwardly projecting flange 3, thereby preventing any looseness in the assembled parts of the article.
By the above construction the parts of the present invention may be disassembled for cleaning the strainer after use. hen the parts are assembled the device may be considered as a unit, as the parts are practically locked together making the article of more than ordinary use to the housewife, the same being used for all straining purposes. By the construction of the strainer should any sediment or precipitate accumulate at the bottom of the strainer the vertical portion of the latter will act as a strainer and thus not hinder the use of the same.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. The combination with a strainer body, consisting of foraminous material, or of a reinforced flanged member, secured to the mouth of said strainer, an outer vessel, a plurality of supporting members secured thereto, a frame member detachably secured to said strainer body for strengthening the same, means for securing the frame member within said outer vessel, and means for de' tachably engaging said frame member with said supporting members as set forth.
2. The combination with a strainer body, of a reinforced outwardly flanged member secured to the mouth thereof, an outer vessel having an opening in the bottom and a larger opening in the top of said outer vessel, said vessel being inwardly flanged at the latter opening, a plurality of supporting members secured to the outer vessel, a frame member comprising a plurality of U-shaped members, means for detachably engaging said frame member to said strainer body, In testimony whereof I aflix my signature means provided on said frame member for in presence of Witnesses.
