Description

STATESPATENT OFFICE.
PAUL BESNIEB, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA rnocnss or Drama.
988,300. 80 Drawing.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL Bosnian, of New Orleans in the parish of=Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and colors therein during 2 that they will be-fast.
Theinvention consists ofa preparation useful Improvements in Processes of Dyeing; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, .and exact descriptionthereof.
This invention isa novel improvementin the art of dyeing fabricsparticularly cotton fabrics, and its object is to fix the the dyeing process sowhichfwhen added to the dye, will act on. the tissue of the fabric in such a manner as to make it take the dye and retainthe color in a manner far. superior to that obtained by any other process,'with less handling, less rinsing, less labor, and also less dye, .thus greatly economizing both time and expense.
The invention in brief comprises a new:
preparation and process of using same in dyeing fabrics, and by this invention entton fabrics canbe dyed a .true and fast'black, and also wool and silk.
In carrying out the invention I first prepare a fixing powdercomposed of common salt; Glauber salt, lye, and naphthalene.
' These ingredients are chemically known as chlorid of sodium (NaCl); sodium sulfate (Na'. ,SO +10H. .O); carbonate of potash .(K CO naphthalene (C H I preferably use the following proportions of tiese ingredients by weight: 25 parts salt, 10 parts Glauber salt, 1 part lye, 1 part naphthalene. These ingredients are mixed together, heated gently and stirred'briskly, and then allowed to cool.
The mixture when cold is in the form of a coarse powder.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July 6, 1910. Serial No. 570,858.
Patented-Apr. 4, 1911.
- very short time.
This powder and process can be used for dyeing true black, not only cotton, but also wool and silk.. It may also be used for fixing other colorsin dyeing. p
What I claim is:
. 5 1. A powder foriusein the dyeing fabrics, consisting of salt, Glauber' salt, lye,
and naphthalene, substantially as described.
2. The herein described powder. for use in the dyeing of fabrics consisting of about 25 parts of salt,-10 parts of Glauber salt, 1 part of lye, and 1,part of naphthalene, sub
'stantially as described.
3. The herein described method of preparing a fixing powder for use in the dyeing of fabrics consisting in mixing salt, Glauber salt, lye and naphthalene, heating same and stirring until mixed, and then allowing same 'to cool.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
