To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER WVIN- SKILL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Hillcrest P. 0., in the county of Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoop-Drivers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in hoop drivers, and particularly of the type adapted for the driving of wire hoops, and the objects of my invention are to provide a simple and effective tool for this purpose which may be very quickly and readily ground to different curvatures, and which at the same time may be adaptable for use on barrels of at least two different sizes.

Further objects are to protect the handle of the tool and to enable the tool to get a firm grip on the wire being driven so that it will not be likely to slip during use.

WVith these and other objects in view, the invention accordingly consists of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specification and drawings.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hoop driver in position, showing a portion of the barrel and hoop being driven. Fig. 2 is a side view of the hoop driver. Fig. 3 is a front view. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the shoe on the end of the handle. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the bottom of the shoe. Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional detail through the end of the driver.

In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the handle of the driver having an upper portion 10 of suitable form to be conveniently grasped by the hand of the workman, and a lower enlarged portion 11 adapted to receive and support a tapered shoe B,which shoe is adapted to fit over the bottom and sides of the lower portion of the driver, and

the bottom is adapted to contact with the hoop C being driven. The

opposite sides

12 and 13 of the shoe are ground to diiferent curvatures, to suit different sizes of barrels, whereby, the one side of the driver will fit one size of barrel, and the opposite side will fit a differently sized barrel.

In order to enable the side edges to be ground readily, without the necessity of grinding away the entire surface, said sides are formed with

apertures

14 and 15 eX- tending over a greater part of their area, and leaving only the thickness of the bottom 16 to be ground.

The bottom of the driver is formed on the underside with a central dividing ridge 17 between the

sides

12 and 13, and the bottom surface is concaved between this ridge and the outer edges, as shown in Fig. 6; these concaves being adapted to receive and take a firm grip on the wire hoop being driven.

It will thus be seen that I have devised a very simple and effective form of tool well adapted to perform the work required of it and which may be used with great rapidity and which is not likely to become disengaged from the work during use.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A hoop driver comprising a handle,

and a shoe on the extremity of the same having apertures on each side, said apertures extending over the greater portion of said sides, whereby, the edge of the bottom of the shoe may be readily ground without grinding the surface of the sides.

2. A hoop driver comprising a handle, and a shoe on the extremity of the same, said shoe being formed on its under surface with a central ridge and being concaved between said ridge and the outer edges.
