To all whom it may concern: Be itknown that I, CLARA B. Srrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvethe rails of folding couches, etc., for supporting the same and also 'for spring to the rail of the frame.

The invention comprises varlous detallsof holding the construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.

I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in Which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing the means for holding the supporting device, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the support holding device.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates an angle rail of the wing of a folding couch, and

B the springs therefor.

D and D designate angle plates, the former of which is designed to engage over the inner edge of the angled bar and the latter underneath the bottom edge of said bar, as shown. Fixed to theplate'D is a pivotal pin E upon which the cam lever F is pivotally mounted which is provided with a handle F. The cam lever has the circumference of its head angular in outline as shown so that, when one of theangular edges H thereof comes in contact with the edge of the slot I formed in the plate D, it will serve to hold the plates D and D in adjustment relative to the edges of the angle bar upon which they are mounted and hold the same from pulling apart. The angled end d of the plate'D is adapted to engage the side wire 0 of the springs as shown and hold the same securely against the edge of the angle bar.

A leg or support, designated by letter K, is provided with an opening L therein, hav ing a contracted and downwardl extending portion N formed therein, and designates a pivotal pin mounted upon the plate D and having a locking member S mounted thereon of such a shape as to engage the contracted portion N of the opening L and normally hold the leg from tilting upon its 'pivot when the device is used in supporting a swinging wing of the couch.

A washer, designated by letter T, is fastened upon the pivot Q and serves to hold the leg in pivotal relation with the member S and still allow the leg to have a slight vertical play, suificient torelease the contracted portion of the member S from the contracted portion N in the opening L. Struck up from the side of the plate D is a lug D in which the leg is adapted to rest when not in use.

In operation, the two hook portions of the plates D and D are placed over the respective edges of the angle bar and also over the side wire of the spring and, as the cam lever is given a partial rotary movement, the hooked ends of the plates are drawn toward the edges of the bar and the spring drawn taut. After one of the angles intermediate the fi'at portions of the circumference of the cam passes by the marginal edge of the opening in which the cam is located, the spring drawing upon the. plate D will cause the fiat portion of the cam to contact with the adjacent edge of the opening and prevent further rotary movement of the cam, hence hold the parts from pulling apart. The leg K, after being released from its supporting hook, is swung down to vertical position and the weight coming upon the leg will cause the narrow portion of the member S to engage the contracted part of the opening L, thus securely holding the leg from lateral movement while the leg is held in such adjusted posit-ion.

It will be noted from the foregoing that the device may fit rails of different widths and serve as a secure means for holding the spring against the rail and also, by the provision of the lag holding means, hold the same from swinging in the event of the couch being moved.

What I claim to be new is 1. In combination with the hinged wing of a folding couch, a spring thereon, adjustable clamping plates en aging the edges of the rail of the win an also the side wire of the spring to he (1 the same against the rail, a cam lever pivotedto one of said plates, the circumference of which is adapted to engage the marginal edge of an opening in the other plate whereby the clam ing plates may be drawn against the edges 0 the rail and held in adjusted position, and a pivotal leg held to said hinged wing.

2. In combination with the hinged wing of a folding couch, a spring thereon, adjustable clamping plates engaging the edges of the rail of the wing an also the side wire of the spring to hold the same against the rail, a cam lever pivoted to one of said plates and having an angular outlined circumference adapted to contact with the marglnal edge of a groove formed in the other clamping plate to hold the lates in adjusted position, and a pivotal eg held to said hinged wing.
