IRONING-BOARD.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARVEY M. EAGON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Gomerstown, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and usefulv Improvements in Ironing- Boards, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in ironing boards, and has particular reference to an ironing board adapted to be detachably secured to a table or like article.

The object of my invent-ion is the provision of an ironing board especially adapted for use in ironing sleeves and small articles, said board being so constructed as to be readily applied to a table or ironing board and as readily detached.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a board of this character which can be moved about on a pivotal support and thus render the same easier of access and adapting it to be swung out of the way when temporarily idle.

To attain the desired objects, my invention comprises an ironing board having a pivotal support provided with a clamp for securing it in position, the board being fur ther provided with means for securing it at various points of the circumference of the support as desired.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 represents a fragmentary sectional view illustrating the method of securing the board and the detailed construction of the support therefor. Fig. 3 repre sents a bottom plan view of the socket casting which is secured to the board, and, Fig. 4 represents a side elevation thereof.

In the drawings, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, the numeral 1 designates the table, having secured thereto the sleeve board 2, while secured to the under side of the board 2 is a casting 3 having a central semi-spherical socket or cup l formed therein and having a slot 6 leading from the socket to the side of the casting. The member 3 has a series of apertures 7 therein in which are secured screws 8 for attaching the same to the board, while extending downward from the upper portion of the member 3 adjacent the socket 4 is an arm or lug 9 terminating at its lower end in a bifurcated portion 10 having the slot Specification of Letters Patent.

or recess 11 between the sides thereof. Mounted in the sockett is the ball 12 formed on the post 13 of my supporting stand, said stand having a triangular base portion 1 1 and being provided with the flanges or ribs 15, on four sides said ribs extending from the base almost to the neck 18 of the post, said neck being turned or rounded and of reduced size to fit into the slot 6 without binding therein. Extending laterally from one side of the base 14 of the stand is a U- shaped arm 16 provided with a flange 15 and formed in the free end of the said arm is a threaded socket 17 in which is engaged the thumb screw 18 bearing on its inner end the clamping disk 19 for engaging the under side of the table 1, said U-arm serving to clamp the entire stand in position.

In assembling my device I engage the neck 13 of the post in the slot 6 and move the same therein until the ball 12 is engaged in the cup 1, when I secure the casting 3 to the board 2 by the screws 8, the cup being of size to entirely contain the ball. \Vhen I desire to swing the board into a different position I lift or raise the outer end thereof and swing it on the ball as a pivot to the desired position, and then drop the end of the board, when the arm 9 will bear against the post and prevent the undue depression of said outer end. To prevent the board from wabbling when used, I preferably engage one of the ribs 15 .in the recess 11 of the bifurcated portion 10 of said arm, thus locking the device in said position until the end of the board is raised and the arm brought out of engagement with the rib.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings it will be seen that I provide a cheap, simple and durable ironing board which can be readily applied to or removed from a table and which is thoroughly efficient and practical in every detail.

I claim:

1. The combination with a sleeve board proper, of a casting adapted to be secured to the under side thereof, said casting having a radial slot formed therein extending to the center of the casting, the casting being provided at the center with a boss or cup-like enlargement and with depending lugs adjacent the boss, and a support for the board having a portion engaging the boss and extending through the slot into engagement with the board and being further provided with means for engaging the lugs to lock the casting in desired position.

2. The combination with a sleeve board proper, of a casting adapted to be secured to the under side thereof, said castin having a radial slot formed therein extending to the center of the casting, the casting having a .of a clamping member having an enlarged base portion adapted to rest on the upper face of a table, a support rising from said base, said support terminating in a reduced neck surmounted by a ball, a casting having a cup-socket adapted to receive the ball and having a slot formed therein extending from the socket to the side of the casting, the neck sliding in the slot until the ball is engaged in the socket, and a sleeve board secured to the casting and resting on the ball.

The combination With an ironing board, of a clamping member having an enlarged portion adapted to rest on the upper face of a table, a support of cruciform shape in cross-section rising from the base, said support terminating in areduced neck portion surmounted by a ball, a casting secured to the ironing board and having a cup to receive the ball and a depending bifurcated lug adjacent the cup, said casting having a slotformed therein in Which the neck of the support is slid until the ball is engaged in ..i
