TROUSERS-STRETCHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar.' 14E, 191i.
.ttpplitmtonl filed June tt, 1910. Serial No. 565,054.
To all whom it may concern;
Bc it known that I, Jomv H. Benni', a citizen of the United States, residing at Newton, in the county of Jasper and State ot' Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Stretehers7 o't' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clothes forms and more particularly to combined trousers strctchers and coat hangers.
The object of the invention is the provision of a simple, comparativelyI inexpensive and etlieient device ot' this character upon which the trousers ma)r be placed and held in proper position so as to regain their form and to take out any bagginess at the kneel'.
A still Further object ot' the invention is the provision of means tor adjusting the trousers :forms for any size ot trousers leg and means for preventing the trousers from ridingl up upon the torni and still further means tor holding the forms in adjusted position when placed in the trousers.
YFurther objects of the invention will appear as the :following specific description is read in connection with the aceompanyirur drawings which form a part o't this specit1- cation7 and in which:
Figure 1 is a/side elevation oi one. ot the forms shown inj ext-ended position. Fig. 2 is a similar view ot' the device applied to a trousers leg. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l.
In the use of this invention. two ot the stretehers shown in the drawing will be used, only one of which however.y will be provided with the coat hanger, but as both of then'i will be otherwise identical, the description ot the single one which 'follows will be sufficient, to describe thel structure and operation oi both.
l and 2 represent the side members7 both of which are sharpened on their outer edges as at 3 to form the crease in the trousers leg and looth members have thel eX- tensions 4 to which is secured the coat hanger device 5 having the laterally extending shoulder loops t3 and the supporting loop 7 arranged thereabove.
livoted to thc inner sides ot the members l and 2 are the separate arms otz toggle joints and 1t), all ot which are 'provided with adjusting apertures ll 'tor the reception ot' a connecting bolt l? which also is adapted to receive and hold in position the operating rod 13 having a handle or manipulating knob lll. upon its upper end. 'lhese toggle joints S, t) and 10 may be adjusted so as to secure any desired separation otl the niembers I. and 2 for diil'erent widths ot trousers legs and each operated simultaneously to spread the members '1 and 2 apart b v the downward action ot' the rod 13 which it will be seen scentrally connected to the toggle joints. i
l'n order to keep the side members in sepl arated relation. there is pivoted on either side ot the operating rod 13, to the upper toggle lever S. a pair of pawls 15 which engage rack teeth 16 formed upon the inner sides ol the members l and Q. The upper ends o't these pawls are connected together b v a spring 17 which normallyl 4forces their ends into the rack teeth and are kept 'from displacement b v plates 1S which are secured to the side members l and 2 and overhang,r the inner edges thereof for the full length ot the rack teeth.
ll`requentl \Y in stretchers of this type, owing to the \\'edgeshape or tapering position of the side members, the trousers will ride up on the stretchcrs until they become loose and the stretchers ineffective and in order to prevent this l secure to the lower ends ot the members l and 2, the laterally projecting pins 1,9 and Q0 which extend outwardly and downwardly from the outer lower ends of the members and are adapted to enter the `fabric and prevent the trousers -from riding up on the members l and 2.
llaving thus described the invention, what is claimed is-- ln a trousers stretcher. oppositely disposed side bars. a plurality of pairs ot' stretcher members pivoted to the sidc bars` an operating rod, pivots centrally connecting the pairs of stretcher menxbers and the rod, rack' bars formed on the side members7 pmvls cm1-ed by one of 'the pairs 0f ,s-eiche! nwmbels, humus to thx-0W the paws imm en gagcrflent 'wiu thu rack bars, means o guide the pnwls upon th@ rack bars, :md a pail* 0f fabric. engaging pins czu'ried. by the, side n'mbfgrs .for prwning ih@ egs of the trou- :afxyf :fm-m dipping up ou the side membe's.
l h; testimony whreof ax my signature m presence of two Witnesses.
