UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WARREN GRAFFAM, 0F SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
ROOF-BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN GRAFFAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Roof-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in roof brackets to be used on roof or chimney construction or repair; it may also be used on the sides of structures wherever there is a projection of suflicient strength to which the bracket may be hooked; and the objects of my improvements are, to provide a strong and compact device, capable of being transported with ease, and having its several parts so arranged as to enable the operator to assemble them quickly, and to place the bracket in position for use. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1. is a side view of the bracket in position on a portion of a roof, and at tached to the ridge pole thereof. Fig. 2. is a plan view of the bracket, Fig. 3. is a front view, and Fig. 4. is a detail showing an extension device.
Similar letters refer to similar throughout the several views.
A. and A represent the base composed of three sections.
a. and a? represent extension bars which rest on the roof or wall, the lower bars a? being provided with a hook extension B. which can be hooked over a ridgepole, gutter, cornice, or any projection of sufficient strength, and thereby serves to hold the parts Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 22, 1908.
Patented Mar. 14, 1911. Serial No. 459,109.
bracket in place. These extension bars slide upon each other, and are held in place by clamps b. 6. which are inserted in the holes d in the bars a. a. as shown in Fi 1. On the upper bars a. are cars a. a. to w ich are pivoted standards (6. of, and these standards hold bars a? a. at any desired angle, said being pivoted at a. to the sliding bar a. The standards a. a? are provided with rack teeth a5, and small metal clips 0. 0. engage in these rack teeth on the bars a3 a on these metal clips rest the horizontal bars a. a The upright bars 0;. m are also provided with cross-bars d. and corner braces e. 6. which are held in place on bars (1. by screw hooks f. f3.
I claim:
1. The herein described roof bracket, composed of an extensible base, being provided with ears, and upright and horizontal bars pivoted to the base, the upright bars being provided with means for holding a cross bar and corner braces in any desired position.
2. A roof bracketcomposed of extensible base pieces, slidable upon each other, and held together in any desired position by clamps, the upper section being provided wit-h ears; two upright and two horizontal bars pivoted to said ears and cross bars and corner braces attached to same, and metal clips for holding said bars in place.
