MILTON M; MALLORY, OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA.
HAMMER ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MILTON M. MALLORY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jeifersonville, in the county of Clark and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hammer Attachments, of which the following is a speeification.
This invention is an improved scraper attachment for hammers or the like particularly adapted for use for scraping mortar, cement or the like, from boards or other surfaces, and the said invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hammer provided. with a scraping attachment embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the scraper blade.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a scrapingplate 1 which is of such size as to enable it to be placed on one side of a hammer or the like. The said scraper plate is formed on one side with a scraping blade 2 which is bent at a suitable angle therefrom and projects beyond one side of the hammer. In the said scraping blade, at a suitable distance from one end thereof, is a recess or notch 3 of a size and shape to adapt it to receive and clear the tongue on a tongued board, such as a piece of flooring, ceiling or the like and the said notch is of such distance from one end of the said scraping blade that the end portion 4 of said blade forms a scraping projection which is adapted to operate in the groove'of a tongued and grooved board. Hence my improved scraping blade when used in connection with the hammer is adapted for use not only for scraping the fiat surfaces of a board but Specification of Letters Patent.

also for scraping the tongued and grooved edges thereof as will be understood.
The scraping plate and the hammer are provided with registering openings for the reception of screws 5 which are employed to secure the scraper plate to one side of the hammer and the said screws also enter the handle, and thereby also secure the latter to the hammer.
It is to be observed that the longitudinal edge of the plate 1 between the walls provided by the cut away portion 3 necessarily presents a sharpened edge, it being understood that the distance between the walls provided by the said cut away portion 3 equals the width of the tongue of the board. By this construction not only the sides but the face of the tongue, as well as the portion of the boards adjacent the tongue may be easily and quickly scraped.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a device of the class described and in combination with an attaching element, a rectangular plate connected with the attaching element, said plate having one of its ends disposed angularly to form a scraping blade, said blade having a notch adjacent one of its sides, and the edge of the plate between the walls formed by the notch presenting a scraping edge so that all of the walls provided by the notch form scraping edges, and the end of the scraper blade adjacent said notch adapted to form a reduced scraping element.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MILTON M. MALLORY.
