To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEVI L., FUNK, a citi-y zen of t-he- United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Tooth-Brush, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to tooth brushes. And the object of the invention is to obtain a tooth brush which may be used to clean the teeth in the ordinary way. and a brush which may be used to clean in, about and 'under what are known in the art as bridge plates, that is, plates that are provided wit-h teeth with the ends of said plates attached to natural teeth, or bridged from one natu ral tooth to another.

A further object of the invention is to obtain a device of the character named which is easily maintained in a cleanly and sanitary condition. And a further object is to obtain a device which is economically made, and cheaply maintained. l

I have illustrated a device embodying this invention in the drawing referred to, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a tooth brush and a vertical section of the handle of said brush and of the remainder of the device. Fig. 2 is an elevation of a device forming a. holding` member. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of a tooth brush and handle. Fig. 4 is an elevation of a device forming a plate cleaning holder. Fig. 5 is a perspective of one end of the plate cleaning holder. Fig. 6 is an elevation of one end of a holding mem-k ber of the device, and one end of the holder of the plate cleaning member inserted in said holding member, and, Fig. 7 is an elevation of the plate cleaning member.

A is a tooth brush, a is the handle thereof.

B is a hollow member in which one end of handle a fits when it is desired to make a continuation of handle @by means of said member B.

C is the plate cleaning member of the device and D is the holder of member C. Holder D comprises the part CZ, having notch or recess d at one end thereof, and the part d2, Figs. 1 and 4, at the other end thereof. Part Z is tubular, said passage way in said tube being large enough to permit the member C to be drawn out of and forced back into the same. The member d is secured in member Z2 and said member d2 fits within the member B. rfhe notches or recesses d are large enough to permit the member C to be forced thereinto when said member is bent in the manner illustrated in Figs. 1 and 7. This bending of the member C and forcing it into one of the notches d is to prevent rotation of said member C in member D when a plate is being cleaned by said member C.

The member C is made of fibrous material C held in place by the ductile material C2 as copper or soft iron wire.

When the device is not in use the member C is contained in the member D and said member D is put into the member B, as illustrated in Fig. 6. yThe brush A may be left in the memberl B or removed therefrom as preferred.

When the brush isto bel used one end of the handle a thereof is inserted in one end of member B as illustrated in Fig. 1.

W'hen the plate cleaning member C is to be used member D is taken out'of member B, turned end for end, replaced in the position illustrated in Fig. 1. Sufficient of the plate cleaning member C for use is drawn from member D and bent down into substantially the position illustrated in Fig. 1 or into the position illustratedfin Fig. 7, and forced into recess d. When thus bent or forced into one of the notches or recesses d the member C, as hereinbefore stated cannot be turned in` member D.

Member C, bent as stated, may be inserted under the plate to be cleaned, using water therewith, and said plate cleaned. When used, suiiiciently the said member C may be cut andthe bent portion thrown to waste. The said bent portion of member C may, after the same has been used be bent back into the position indicated by broken lines C3, Fig. 1, and forced back into meinber D@ After member C has been used and forced into member D said member D may be withdrawn from member B, turned end for end and replaced in said member B, as illustrated in Fig. 6.
