Be it known that I, NORA E. DUNLAP, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bust ,Girdles,- of which the following is a specification.

The main object of this invention is to provide an improved form of bust girdle which is capable of accurate adjustment to the form of the wearer and Which is of such construction that it may be readily slipped on and olf by the wearer. This object is accomplished by the device shown in the ac companying drawings, which illustrates a specific embodiment of this invention.

'being thrown over one shoulder of the wearer. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with the apron in position. Fig. 3 is a back view. Fig' 4 is a detail of the garment, showing the shape and arrangement of its parts, the shoulder straps being separated for the sake of'clearness.

In the form shown, the body of'the girdle is formed with integral back and side portions provided with shoulder straps 1 and 2 respectively. The back 3 and side portions 4 are shaped to'snu'gly fit the form of the wearer, and the two parts of each shoulder strap are gether. The body portion is also preferably provided with straps 6 suitably arranged atthe side and back, this character.

. A front portion, comprising a pair of substantially triangular gores 7, is interposed between the front edges 8 of the sides 4 of the body part. The inner or meeting edges of the gores are provided with hooks and eyes or other detachable engaging means which permit them to be readily fastened together or separated,'and the outer edges of the gores 7 are connected to the ad acent as is usual in devices of parts of the front edges of the side portions by lacings 9, whereby the girth of the main part of the girdle may be adjusted. Each gore 7 is also provided with a flap 10 underlying the lacing.

The gores 7 are of substantially triangular shape, being widest at the top and gradually tapering to narrow width at their lower ends. The lower ends of the gores are extended in the form of straps or tapes 11 by preferably permanently sewed tomeans of which the lower parts of-the sides of the girdle aredrawn together soas to snugly fit the form of the wearer. The lower front corners of the side portions of the body part are cut away below the' lacings 9 so that there is a substantially wedge-shaped space below the gores. Each of the front edges of the side portions is provided with a plurality of loops 12 adjacent to said wedgeshaped space, which are arranged to permit the tapes 11 to be laced through them so as to draw the lower front edges of the body part together. This is illustrated in Fig. 1, where the tapes 11 are shown after having been passed through the loops 12 and the wearer is shown in the-act of tying them. The hooks and eyes by means of which the adjacent edges of the gores 7 are connected are designated 13 in Fig. 4.

In order to hide the gores 7 and the lacing 9 which connectsthem to'the sides 4 of the body part, an apron 14 isprovided which is of such form as to completely cover the lacing. The upper edge of the apron is cut to "conform with the shape of the adjacent up per parts of the side portions 4 of the body part, and one of the upper corners 15 of the apron is permanently sewed to the corresponding side part of the body, while theother upper corner 16 is provided with a hook and eye or other means for detachable connection with its respective side portion. The lower part of the apron is shaped to form wings l7 'extendingtoward each side, .and each wing terminates in a tape 18, whlch' tapes are passed around the waist of the wearer and tied together as illustrated in Fig. 2. j I

In putting on the garment, the wearer enters it as she would a jacket, and fastens the hooksand eyes 13, the lacing parts 9 being adjusted only at times when readjustment of the girth of the girdle is desired. After the hooks and eyes 13 are fastened, the tapes 11 are .laced back and forth between the loops 12 on opposite side port ons of the girdle and are then drawn up and tied so that the lower portion of the girdle fits snugly below the bust. Duringthis operation the apron 14 is thrown over the wearers shoulder, as illustrated in Fig.1.

After the adjustment of the girdle is com pleted, the corner 16 of the apron is hooked into itsposition onthe body part, and the tapes 18 are passed around the waist in op posite directions as shown in Fig.

Although but one specific embodiment of this invention is herein shown and described, it will be'understood that some .of the details may be altered or omitted, within the scope of the following claims, without departing from the spirit of this invention.

I claim:

1. A girdle comprising integral back and side portions, :1 front portion interposed between and having adjustable connection with the adjacent front edges of the side portions and comprising a pair of depending straps spaced apart and adapted to be tied together to draw the lower parts of the side portions together so as to adjust the fit of the girdle, and a pluralityof loops formed on said side portions near the lower front edges thereof and adapted to permit said straps to be laced through them.

2. A bust girdle comprising a body part permanently closed across the back and open at the front, shoulder straps thereon for supporting the girdle, a pair of gores interposed between the front edges of said body part, said gores being detachably connected together along their adjacent edges and having their outer edges laced to the respective front edges of the body part, a depending strap= extending from the lower end of each of said gores, and means on the edges ofsaid body part below said lacing, said means being adapted to be engaged by said straps and to permit them to be laced between the opposite edges of the body part for adjusting the fit of the girdle.

A bust girdle comprising a, body part permanently closed across the back and open at the front, shoulder straps thereon for supporting the girdle, a pair of gores interposed between the front edges of said body part, said gores being detachably connected together along their adjacent edges and having their outer edges laced to the respective-front edges of the body part, said gores being of greatest width at the top and being tapered down to the width of 'said straps at their lower ends, a depending strap extending from the lower end of each of said gores, and means on the edges of said body part below said lacing, said means being adapted to be engaged by said straps and to permit them to be laced between the opposite edges of the body part for adjusting the fit of the girdle.

4;. A bust girdle comprising a body part permanently closed across the back and open at the front, shoulder straps thereon for supporting the girdle, a pair of gores interposed between the front edges of said body part, said gores being detachably connected together along their adjacent edges and having their outer edges laced to the respective front edges of the body part, a depending strap extending from the lower end of each of said gores, and means on the edges of said body part below said lacing, said means being adapted to be engaged by said straps and to permit them to be laced between the oppositeedges of the body part for adjusting the fit of the girdle, and an apron extending across the front of said girdle so as to hide said gores and lacing, being adaptedto be secured at its upper corners to said body part and having wings terminating inside straps adapted to be passed around the waist of the wearer for securing the lower edge of the apron.

5. A girdle comprising integral back and side portions, means on the lower parts of tween the upper parts of the adjacent front edges of said side portions, lacing connecting said front portion with one of the said side portions, means on the lower parts of the front edges of said side portions for engaging a strap, and a strap adapted to coact with said means for drawing the lower parts of said side portions together below said front portion.
