I?) all er tom it may concern:
Be it known that l, lfioivnun i lilnrrar, a citizen of the United States 0i. America, residing at lvl acon, in the county ot' Macon and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Combined lying Devices and Label-Holders, of which specification, reference bethe following is had therein to the accompanying drawng mg. This invention relates to package tying devices especially adapted for tying packages of mail, otlicial and the principal object of the same is to provide a device of the character stated that is provided with means for securely holding and effectively displaying: a label, said deformed of light but strong material. that will be held compactly upon a package by the fastening string which it retains out the package.
in ing out the object of the invention u ally stated above it "will be understood, of course, that the principal features of he same are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrange ments, one preferred and practical embodiof which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a perspective view of a package of mail or the like which is held in a fastened condition, by means of the improved combined label holder and package tie. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 22, 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings y 111nne*a.ls,'l designates the package that is held ti .d together by the improved tying device, said package for example, being mail matter.
The label holder and tie comprises primarily a flat body 2 formed of lightbut strong sheet metal which is provided with a central transverse sight opening 3, and which has one end inturned to form an end rest and holder 4 for a label. body are also inturned as indicated at 5 which provides holders and guides for the label so to assure of the same being properly the underside of the body 1. The upper end of said body is preferably monn'ded and is provided with a central eyelet 6 to which one end of the fastening string 11' is attacl'ied, and adjacent said eye an open- Speeification of Letters Patent. Application filed January 7, 1.910.

It Will be seen from the foregoing that the described tie 7 guides and an end rest maybe readily slipped vits printed matter will {the sightl I so that. the label 11 into position so that opening formed through the fitted Within the side guides and end rest as described it n'illbe seen, that the-rivets of the buttons will cause bulged, so that when the .iastening string is Wrapped around the bundle and snapped in between said buttons and the body, the-label will be firmlypressed upon the package, and
thereby prevented understood, of course, that the bein held immovable relative age p y thev fastening stri g.
In Fig. 1 one means; of fastening the string about the package has been shown which consists in passing the string over one end of the package the bottom thereof, thence over the other end ofthe package, to and around one of body 1.
In use the label having been body is also to the packthe buttons, thence. transversely around the bottom of the package-land np to and around the other bottom As will be obvious other methods of fastening the string abou the package may be employed if desired.
As will be observed by reference to Fig. 2, the eyelets or rivets IOare arranged so that theyproject above and below the body 2, and owing to their being located adjacent each end thereof and in proximity to the I inturned'fianges. the said flanges and the 5 inner end of said eyelets provide clamping ttueans for the label 11, so that said label will .be firmly but rcmovably held in posit tion. l
