Description

H. OTTO.
CLOTHES LINEIWIPER. APPLIOATION FILED JAN. 21, 1910.-

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
HANS OTTO, OF LOOKEBA, OKLAHOMA.
CLOTHES-LINE wrrnn.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb 2S, 1911.
Original application filed November 8, 1909, Serial No. 526,847. Divided and this application filed January 21 1910. Serial No. 539,238.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IIANS OT'ro, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of 'Lookeba, in the county of Caddo and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line dVipcrs, of which the following is a speciiication.
' be secured to the casing of a reel for holding the line; and it consists in a springclasp secured to the reel-casing and inclosing the opening in the casing through which the line extends to hold a wiper cloth, waste, or other suitable material in engagement with the line.
This application is a division of a certain application for patent on an invention entitled Improvements in clothes line reels filed November 8, 1909, and given Serial No. 526847.
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a fragment of a clothes-line reel casing, showing a front view ofmy improved wiper in position thereon: and Fig. 2, a side view of the wiper in position on a fragment of the casing.
In the drawings similar reference-characters indicate corresponding parts'through both of the views.
A indicates the casing of any preferred form of clothes-line -reel, having a hole therein through which the clothes-line B extends.
The wiper consists of a wad of cloth, waste, or other material 1 that is placedin position 011 the outside of easing A, so as to, surround the line B, which is held in position by a clamp consisting of a single strand of wire 2, bent in its middle, as shown at 3. to form an inverted U-shaped structure that has its ends l secured to the casing in any suitable manner so as to leave the bent portion 3 free to clamp the wiper 1, the rope B extending through the loop formed by the wire. I
5 indicates coils in the two sides of the clamp intermediate of each end 4: and the bent portion 3 to add to the resilience of the clamp. r
In operation it will be understood that when the wiper is in position the line will be wiped when being reeled into the casing A or drawn out to hang it. As the wiper 1 is readily removable and replaceablmbecause only loosely held by the clamp it will be apparent that it may be removed when soiled and replaced as frequently as, necessary for successful operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In combination with a clothes-line reel casing having an opening therein for the passage of the clothes-line, an'inverted U- shaped spring-wire clamp secured to the casing and inclosing the opening, and a wiper of fibrous material held in position between the casing and clamp to engage the surface of the clothes-line and wipe it as it is drawn from and returned to the casing.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' HANS OTTO. .Witnesses: v a CHAS. NOWKA,
IRA F. Hooson.
