ROBERT M. STEVENSON, OF OLEAN, NEW YORK.
LUBRIoAToR-oUr.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT M. STEVEN- soN. a citizen of the United States, residing at ()lean. in the county of Cattaraugus and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricator- Cups, of which the following is a specification. reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in lubricating cups for engines and the like.
One object of this invention is to provide a simple and practical device for lubricating, which can be produced atcomparatively small cost.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simple and practical device of this character which can be readily cleaned by removing its parts.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which-- Figure 1 is a sectional view of this device showing all its parts. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the swab in detail. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the cup in detail;'and Fig. 4C is a plan view of the top.
In the drawings, the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same numerals of reference in each of the views and these drawings, with the following detailed description, form a full and complete specification such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In said drawings, 1 denotes any suitable outer casing or body portion in which the cup 5 may be securely held by means of a flange or ledge 6 resting on its upper edge and held in place by a cap or top 4 which is adapted to be secured to said body portion by means of threads 2. Said body portion is preferably provided with screw threads 3 at its bottom so that it can be readily applied to any desired object.
5 denotes the cup or cylinder for holding Specification of Letters Patent.

the lubricant and has a flange 6 at its upper end and is conical at its lower end 7, said conical end being provided with. an emission hole 7 in its side a little above its apex so that any sediment in the lubricant will settle at the bottom of the cup which can readily be removed.
9 indicates the spring handles with any suitable finger clips 10 of the swab 11 which is securely fastened to the said handles 9 by a wire 12 running through and twisted together at S, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. This swab serves a double purpose in the device: by lowering it to the bottom it stops up the hole 7 and shuts oil the flow of lubricant; and by turning the spring handles 9 around in the hole 5 in the top 4, any sediment which might be in the lubricant and which has settled to the bottom will adhere to the felt swab 11 and can be easily removed by unscrewing the top 4 from the body portion 1 and taking it out. The top a is provided with a hole 5 so that the cup 5 can be easily filled without taking it apart; and is also provided with oppositely disposed notches 6 so that the spring handles 9 can be frictionally held therein. The lubricant being a more or less dense substance and the hole 7 being rather small the flow of oil is rather slow and the oil will naturally adhere to the side of the coneshaped cup 7 until it reaches the apex or point where it will form a drop and so will lubricate the desired object gradually.
lVith the combination of parts as above described this device is easily filled, easily cleaned. easily shut off and easilv attached to any desired object and is provided with an emission hole 7 above the bottom so that the dirt and sediment of the oil will not stop it up and so that it can be easily shut off when not in use by lowering the felt swab over the hole with the spring handles 9, as clearly described.
llaving thus described my invention, what T. claim is:
A lubricating device, consisting in the combination of an outer casing, a cap screwed to said outer casing at its upper end said casing being provided with means for bottom, a felt swab and spring handles, subattaching it atits lower end, said cap havstantially as described. 10 ing a suitable opening so that the device In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my can be easily filled and having recesses for signature in the presence of two witnesses. slidably retaining therein the spring han- ROBERT M.
