My present llU'CDtiOII relates to the coal feeding mechanism of a gas producer. having for its objects to accomplish a more uniform and etiicient distribution of the coal to the gas producing chamber and to bring the distribution within the control of the oper shaped. to contain water to avoid the injurious etfects due to over heating". The cover 3 is provided with a series of openings 4 closed by covers 5. which are water sealed by the body of water 6 contained in the cover 3. The openings 4 allow the interior of the producing chamber 1 to he inspected to determine the condition of the fuel and to observe its distrilmtion. Mounted upon the cover 3 a plat form 7. upon which coal delivered through the hopper shaped opening 8 from the magazine 9.

The inclined chute 40 proiects downward at an oblique angle through the. opening 30 in the 1' cover 3; .The opening 39 is inclosed by a flaring flange 42, forming an inverted hopper shaped space for the free delivery of coal from the chute LO-into the gas producing chamber. The upper end of the flange 42 is cylindrical and is provided with. an interior shoulder -13, which supports the depending flange 44 inclosing the opening 29. The magazine 9 is a cylindrical shell which rests'upon the cover 31 concentrically with 1e hopper shaped opening 8. The cover 1 is'turned upwardly at 45 to form, a flange which is inclosed by the lower end of the magazine 9. The'fiange 45 -is then bent I downwardly at an oblique angle to form the hopper shaped opening 8.

An examination of the gas producing chamber, which may be made by removing either ofthe'covers 5 or 36, will disclose thedistribution of coal and, ifthis is not sufiiciently uniform, it may be. varied by rotating the covers 36 on their supporting flanges 35 thereby swinging the coal distributors 37 and changing the direction of the inclined chutes. An adjustment of a suilicient number of covers 36 is made to effeet a uniform distribution of coal over the incandescent mass of fuel in the gas producing chamber. If it be foundthat the combustion of fuel is proceeding in certain spots more rapidly than in others, the appropriate coal distributersare rotated 'in their respective openings to cause their inclined chutes to deliver an increased supply of coal thereto. The formation of air fines or pipes in the mass ofjfuel is thereby avoided and a uniform combustion throughout the-entire males of fuel is maintained.

1 In a feeding mechanismfor"gas-pr ducers, aggas producing chamber, a cover therefor, having a series of concentric openings, a platform above said cover having a series .of concentric openings inalinemcnt with the openings in said cover, a second cover for said platform inclosing a circular chamber, rotating blades in said chamber extending over said platform, and means bev tween said platform and the cover of the gas producing chamber for rotating said blades.

In a feeding mechanism for gas producers, a gas producing chamber, a water receptacle forming a cover for said chamher, a platform mounted above said cover,
a spindle journaled in said platform con centric with the gas producing chamber, to.- tatable blades carried by the upper end of said spindle above said platform, means for rotating said spindle below said platform, and a series of concentric inclosed coal passages Lading from the upper surface of said platform to said gas producing chamber.
4. In a feeding mechanism for gas produceis, a water receptacle forming a cover for said chamber, a horizontal platformmounted above said cover,a horizontal cover for said platform inclcsing a circular chamber concentric with the gas producing chamher, a spindle journaled concentrically with the gas producing chamber, rotatable blades carried by said spindle and inclosed in said circular chamber,-means for deliverin coal to the center of said platform, a series of inclosed coal passages leading from the upper surface of the platform to the gas pro ducing chamber, and a series of water sealed openings in the cover of said platform in alinement with said inclosed coal passages.
5. In .a feeding mechanism for gas producers, a gas producingchamber, a dish shaped cover therefor, a latform mounted above said cover, a spin le journaled con-' centrically with the gas producing chamber,

In a feeding mechanism for gas producers, a platform mounted above the gas producing chamber, a series of coal passages leading from the upper surface of said platform to the gas producing chamber, means for moving coal from said platform through said coal passages, and fixed chutesadjust- 15 ably held in said coal passages for changing the direction of the coal in each of said'passages independently of the other passages.

In a feeding mechanism for gas producers', a platform for supporting thecoal to be fed to the producer, a series of confor said platform inclosing a concentric chamber and having a series of openings in sealed covers for-said openings, and chutes suspended from said covers and extending into said coal passages, each of said chutes being independently adjustable.

In a feeding mechanism for gas producers, a gasproducing chamber, a cover therefor, a platform mounted above said cover, a second cover'for said platform inclosing a coal chamber, said second cover having a flange turned vertically upward and obliquely downward to inclose a hopper shaped opening, a coal reservoir mounted on said cover above saidhopper shaped opening, a series of concentric coal passages leading from the upper surface of said platform to the gas producing chamber and means for moving coal from said plat-form through said passages.
