To all whom it may concern:

Be it known tliat I. O'r'ro Scnunnwnxx, a citizen of the t'nited States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of \Yisconsin, have invented new and useful lmprm'cments in Billiard-Cues, of which .the following is a specification.

My invention relates to imprm'ements in billiard cues, and pertains more especially to the device for fastening the tip to one end of the stall.

The construct-ion of my invention is explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of one end of the stali', partin section, provided with my improved tipvalso shown in section. Fig. 2 represents a section of the tip removed from the staff. Fig. 3 represents a bottom View of the tip. Fig. 4: represents 1 top View of the fastening device by which ;he tip is secured to the staff, and Fig. 5 represents a modilie form of a billiard cue, part in section, as the same is constructed when the staff is provided with an end iecc formed of ivory or the like, and in vliich the tip retaining screw is secured lirectly to the end of the stall.

pass over the points of the barbs 5 until the central portion of the tip is brought down in close contact with the upper surface of the fastening plate 2. Vhen this is done, the tip is forced downwardly above the barbs 5 by the tap of a hammer, or in any other equivalent manner, when the protruding ends of the bars are caused to penetrate the surface of the tip as its marginal edges are brought. into contact with the end of the statt' around the periphery of the fastening plate :2, whereby the tip is prevented from turning on the supporting screw and becoming loose as it might otherwise do if not retained in place by such barbs.

By the modified form shown in Fig. 5, the fastening plate 2 and nails 3 are dispensed with and the tip retaining screw 7 is made of greater length, when it is secured in place in screw-threaded bearings formed directly in the upper end 8 of the statf, the upper end 8 being formed as stated of ivory or other hard substance, which rigidly retains the screw 7 in lace. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination with the staff of a billiard one, of a. screw projec ng from the longitudinal center of one end of said stafi', a plurality of barbs projecting from the end of said staff at the sides of said screw, and an elastic tip provided with a central aperture for the reception of said screw, said barbs being adapted to penetrate the surface of said tip and prevent the same from turning on said screw and becoming loose.

2. The combination with the statf of a billiard cue, of an integrally formed screw adapted to penetrate fli opposing surface 0f said tip and prevent the same from turnill ing on said screw, an
