Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
WILLIAM LOVE, OF MCCONNELLSVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN LADIES BOOTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 98,391, dated December 28, 1869.
To all whom. 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LOVE, of Mc Gonnellsville, in the county of Morgan and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Boot for Ladies, of' whichv the` following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Vwhich- Figure I is a view of my improved boot as it appears buttoned on the foot. Fig. Il is a view ot' the boot with one side unbuttoned. Fig. III is a view of the boot laced up with the buttoned front detached. y
The object of my invention is to provide a ladys boot that Will fit the foot and ankle neatly and comfortably, and at the same time be effectual in keeping snow, water, or dirt from the lace and foot; and consists in forming a flap, covering the laced front in a continuous piece with the vamp, and having said iiap buttoned to the sides ot' the quarter.
To enable others skilled in the art to under! stand land use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, the boot A has the sides a a supplied with eyelets e c, for lacing the boot neatly and comfortably around the ankle. B is the front flap, which is supplied with button-holes, by which it is secured in place on the buttons b b after the boot has been fitted to the ankle by lacing.
It Will be readily seen that my improved boot is as easily put on or taken o" as `the most simple shoe, and when properly adjusted to the foot and ankle it will iit more neatly and comfortably, and be at the same time more ornamental, than any other boot in use.
It will also be readily seen that by combining the lacing with the buttoned front the wearer does not have to force the boot in place while buttoning it; but it is held in place by the lacing, and the process of buttoning up the front is easy and expeditious.
When the lacing alone is used it is objected that the lacing and foot are exposed to the weather, and when the present mode of buttoning alone is used it is difticnlt, if not impossible, for ladies to secure a neat and comfortable t around the ankle, and at the same time button the iap.
By my new and improvedv boot a lady is able to lace and then button 4her boot without difculty and with perfect ease, and at the same time adjust it perfectly to her foot and ankle.
By the use of the two rows of buttons b b the front iiap B becomes adjustable to the ankle Without being thrown out ot' place or drawn too much to one side, as in the case of ladies boots as now made to be buttoned on one side of the ankle only. i
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A laced boot having its vamp and Hap forming one continuous piece, the said ap covering the lacing, and secured to the sides of the quarters by buttons, or their equivalents, substantially as described.
WILLIAM LOVE.
