To all whom it may concern:

Be it known 4that we, WILLIAM 'REICHENBACH and FRIEDRICH BosoHDIANTzKi", of Chicago, inthe county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have vinvented certain new and useful Improvements in. Combined Sofa. and Ta le; and we do hereby declare that the following is aull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference bei g had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, and to the lettersV of reference marked thereon, like letters indicating like parts wherever they occur.

To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use our invention, we will proceed to describe it.

Our invention consists in combining, with a` sofa, a

detachable stand or table, and also in providing the sofa with drawers and a sewing-tray or box, which, when not in use, may be shoved into its body, out of sight.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of our sofa with the stand detached, the drawers open, and .the tray in position for use;

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the sofa with the table attached, and the drawers and tray closed; and

Figure 3 isla side elevation of the table, detached, showing the manner in which its top maybe inclined or adjusted.

A is the sofa, which may be made of any of the usual forms, and having, in its front side, below the cushion, drawers, l) b, and in one of its arnis or heads a sewing-tray or box, D.

The tray B is hinged, at its hack end, to a sliding block, within the sofa-head, in such manner that asV the tray'is drawn out, the end of the block will come flush with the front of the sofa, and thus, while sup.- porting the tray, allow it to be turned around at a right angle, as shown intig. l.

When the tray is thus extended, its outer end may be supported by an arm, c, pivoted to the inside of one. of the drawers, and inside of which itis turned when not in use.

The work-box, when not in use, is shoved hack within the' sofa-head, as showulin tig. 2.

Through the middle of the sofa we make averticail hole, a, to receive the standard ot' the table, and arrange cross-bars, of the frame\vork,.so as tolgive said standard a'iirm support, when inserted therein.

B is the table or stand, consisting of' head g,hinged to a standard or post, f, with a spring', h, inserted between the two, so as to hold the top at an inclination to the standard, as shown in lig. 3.

The under side ofthe top gis provided with a button, j, by which the top may be locked down, horizontally, as shown in dotted lines in iig. 3. The table is attached by simply inserting its standard into the hole a, as shown in tlg. 2.'

When thus applied, the table, when horizont-al, forms a very neat and convenient stand for books, papers,&c., and upon which to play games, as the players sit one on each end of the soi'a, with the table v between them. h

By releasing the button and allowing the top to tip,

it -forms a convenient writing-desk, or support for' books while reading'. v

After removing the table from the sofa, the hole a. is concealed by inserting therein an ornamental but.- ton. f l

Having tous described our invention,

That we claim, is-y 1. The arrangement, in connection with asofa or settee, of the'sliding hinged drawer D and the drawer b, having the pivoted support attached, substantially as shown and described.

2. The detachable table B, in con'ibinatiou with a sofa, when said parts are arranged to he used substantially as herein set forth.
