Description
W. 0. JOHNSON. SANITARY BED BASIN HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 3,-1909.
Inventor \A/l' messes rnsrirnn sfraegns ra rnnm err ree:
WILLIAM C. JOHNSON, OF TOPEKA, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE AS- SIGNMENTS, TO THE HULL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF TOFEKA, KANSAS, A
CORPORATION OF KANSAS.
SANITARY BED-BASIN HOLDER.
Application filed November 3, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Bed-Basin Holders, of which the following isa specification.
My invention relates to devices for holding a basin or jar or other vessel at the side of a bed. Its object is to hold the basin in such manner that the l asin may be held at the side of the bed in a position convenient for the occupant of the bed for such uses as cxpectoration, vomiting, washing, etc., and also so that it may be readily removed and replaced, and also so that the holding device and the basin may both be swung under the bed when not in use. And it comprises essentially a, clamp adapted to be detachably secured to the side-rail of a bedstead, and a basin holder secured to the clamp in such manner that the holder, either with or without the basin, may be extended both within and without the edge of the bed; and it further consists of the parts, improvements, and combinations hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawings accompanying and forming partof this specification and in the description of the drawings, I have shown my invention in its preferred form, and have shown what I deem to be the best mode of applying the principles thereof; but obvious changes in form, proportions, and materials, the transposition of parts, and the substitution of equivalent members, may be resorted to, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the clamping member secured to the bed-rail shown in section. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation. Fig. 3 is a face view of one of the clamping members. Fig. 1 is a plan View of the holding ring, with a dotted outline of the held basin, and a section of the clamp.
Similar reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views.
5 is a holding ring adapted to support a basin or other vessel, and provided with a slotted extension 6 at one side. The slotted Specification of Letters Patent.

extension is adapted to engage the clamping member 8 in the annular groove 7 at the lower end thereof, so that the supporting ring may be readily applied to and removed from the clamp. The upper end of the clamping member 8 is formed to engage the vertical flange of the bed-rail 15 and to overlap the upper edge and also the bottom flange, as indicated by the part 9. Through the stem of the clamping member is a squared hole 10, through which extends the squared bolt 11. 12 is the other clamping member, adapted to engage the under side and the edge of the lower or horizontal flange of the bed-rail, and provided with a slot 13 through which the bolt extends. The clamp is secured to the rail by means of the bolt and nut 14, the slot permitting a vertical range of adjustment to compensate for variations in the bed-rail.
It is obvious that with this attachment, the basin-holding ring may be turned out at the outside of the bed, or in under the bed where it will be out of the way. The basin may be removed by simply lifting it off. The ring may be quickly removed from the clamp, as hereinbefore described. And the clamp itself may be readily attached to or detached from any bed-rail within a wide range of sizes.
What I claim is 1. The combination of a pair of adjustable clamping members adapted to be detachably secured to a bed-rail and provided with a horizontal annular channel, and a basin-supporting ring with a slotted side extension fitting in said annular channel.
2. The combination of a pair of clamping members adapted to be clamped to a bedrail, one of the members provided at its lower end with a horizontal annular channel, and a basin-holding ring with a slotted side extension, said slot being open at its inner end, and said slotted extension fitting in said annular channel.
3. The combination of a clamp comprising a ampingmember adapted to embrace the vertical flange and the bottom of the horizontal flange of a bed-rail and having a downwardly extending stem with an annular channel in its lower end and a squared hole through the stem, a clamping member adapted to embrace the bottom and the edge til of the horizontal flange and having a slot In testimony whereof I have hereunto l'egisteiiing with said squared hole and a i signed my name in the presence of Witnesses. squai'ec bolt extending through said s uared I v T T hole and said slot, and a basin-holding; ring TILLIAM JOHBSOE with a slotted side extension engaging said \Vitnesses:
