speincation of 'Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 31,1911.
Application filed September 19, 1910. Serial No. 582,706.
To all 'iliiiofnrif may concern:
Be itnlndwnthat' I, E Melun' D. WVATKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, inthe county oit Muscogee and State offGeorgia, have invented certain new land useful Improvements in Advertising- Frames tor Pool-'l`ahles; and I do declare the following to be ,a full, clear, and enact4 description of the invention, such as will enable othersfskilled in the art to which it appertains to 1 make and use the same.
This invention relates-t0 improvements in ladvertising trames for pool tables and the like. j
One object ot-the invention is to provide 'a traine or sei-ies ot' i'ranies adapted to be secured tothe-.sides ol' pool tables, billiard tables and the like whereby advertising matter may be secured. thereto in position -to be prominently displayed without forming an obstruction or in any way interfering with the use of the table.
nother object is to provide a frame of this character torined i in adjustably en- `2'51gaged sections whereby the length ot the frame may be increasedV or diminished to suit the size of the advertisement to be supported thereby.
` With these andothcr objects in View, the
invention consists of certain novel 'features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will `ber-more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is an yend View of a pool table illustrating the application ofthe invention, and showing three frames in position thereon; Fig. 2
is an enlarged front View4 of one ot'- the frames and a portion of the ,end of a table showingl the parts in position for holding an advertising card; Fig. fiisya similaiview showing the parts separated or" 1n re- I tracted position; Fig. 4 is a vertical. lon 'itudinal section of the frame taken on t ie line 4--4 of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a vertical 'sectional view of the saine on the lineof Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the draw- ,ing, 1 denotes the frames each of which con-l sists of an inner section 2 and an outer seotion 3. The sections 2 and 3 have their op-Y osite side edges andthe edge at one end iient upwardly and inwardly to formkiinwardly projecting flanges 4 beneath which are inserted the edges of the cardl or cards containing the advertising I matter.
Inwardly projecting flanges of the' sideedges also serve to foi-m interlocking fastening devices whereby the inner ends of the sections 2 and 3 of the frames may be adjnstably connected together. When theinner ends of the sections are brought, together the flanges on the side edges-of the inner section telescope with the flanges on the side edges of the outer section and the back late ot the inner section overlaps and sli ably engages the back of the outer sectionr as shown. The frames are-adjustably secured to the sides of the pool table or other objec by means of clips 5 which are in the form ot' oblong plates of suitable length and width and have their ends rounded as shown. In the center of the plates are formed longi tudinally disposed oblong slots 6, which are vlap the edges ot the slots 6 and thus 'hold the plates in position to secure the frames in place. latter are secured in the manner described are engaged with slots 8 formed in the 'upwardly bent edges of the ends of the fraiiies and engage back plates thereof thus clamping the frames in position against the 'sides of the table. The slots in the clips and the heads of the bolts are preferably covered by caps 9 secured by screws 10 'to the headsl 0f to receive the screws 10.
The frames may be formed of any snitable thin sheet inet-al and in any desired size and when constructed in the I nanner described may be 'readily adjusted tovarions lengths to suit the len th of the advertising card to be displaye Vhen two or more frames are arranged in line the adjacent ends of th'e same are secured by the saine plate or clip, as shown.
'lhe ends of lthe clips when the .90 the bolts 7 said heads having threaded holes From theI foregoing descrlption taken in connection with the accompanying draws` ings, the construction and .operation of the Vinvention may be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion fand the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificingV any'of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what passing through the slots in the clip plates I claim is: whereby said clip plates are secured in posi- An advertising frame for pool tables and tion to engage 4the slots in the ends of the 1,5 the like, formed in sheet metal sections hav# frame sections ,toV adjustably secure the .ing their sidevedges and edges at one end frame sections in position.`
