(01. 40-150) This inventionrelates' to improvements in display cards and refers particularly to an advertising or art display card constructed of relatively rigid material which'may be horizontally scored along a plurality of lines to divide the .card into a plurality of sections, each section being foldable. along said score linesfover an adjacent section, said display card being characterized in that all the score lines appear on the same face of the card.

The utility, objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the accompanying drawings and following detailed description:

Referring in detail to the drawings 1 indicates a display card which maybe constructed of cardboard, fibrOusbOard or any similar type material. The face 2 of the card 1 may be printed upon, or may serve as a support for a lithographed sheet, which printing or lithographing maybe utilized as an advertising medium, or as an artistic or decorative display. The periphery of the card 1 may take any desired form.

As a feature of my invention the card 1 may be scored horizontally along a plurality of lines 3, which may divide the-card proper into a plurality of sections 4 It is desirable that the score lines 3 be so spaced from each other, and from the upper and lower extremities of the card as to permit the card when folded along said lines to 00- cupy a space equal'to that of one section. It is to be understood, of course, that although a card provided with two score lines 3 dividing said card into three sections 4 is shown, I may provide any number of horizontal score lines which'in turn may divide the card into any number of sections.

- As a further feature of my invention I may score the line 7- the card 1 upon either face of said card; that is, the score lines 3 may appear only on the rear face and for any one card said score lines will always appear on the same face, whether front or rear. It has heretofore been proposed to construct a display card which may be foldable into a plurality of sections along horizontal score lines which are; provided alternately upon opposite faces of the card; that is, adjacent score lines will be on opposite faces of the card. In folding a card of this type, the same is folded in a zigzag manner.

One of the disadvantages of a display cardof this type is that when shipping or otherwise handling thecard in its folded position, one section of said card will always be exposed to said handling, whereas by providing all of the scorelines upon the same face of the card the front face or the lithographed or printed face may be folded inwardly and the same may be protected from wear incident toshipping or handling.

The card 1 is adapted to be supported in a substantially vertical position when used, and to accomplish this result I may provide. an easel 5, constructed of substantially the same material as that of the card. The easel 5 may comprise a triangular portion .6 upon. one edge of which may be joined a rectangular strip 7. .The central portion of the strip 7 may be rigidly connected .tothe central portion of the rear face of the card 1, or in-utilizing the card of three sections 4, the central'portion of the strip '7 may be joined to the central section 4. To join the central portion of the strip '7, and the central section 4, an adhesive may be used, if desired, or the same may be riveted or otherwise united.

The upper portion of the easel 5, including the upper portion of the rectangular strip 7, and the upper portion of the triangular 6 may be scored horizontally along the line 8 adjacent the upper score line 3. The lower portion of the easel 5, comprising the lower end of the strip 7 and the lower portion of the triangular member 6, may also be scored horizontally along the line 9. The purposeof score lines 8 and 9 will be hereinafter more fully described. 1

In mounted position the strip 7 may lie in a plane substantially parallel to the rear surface of the card 1, and the triangle portion of the easel 5 may be disposed at right angles to said strip and hence at right angles to the plane of the card 1. To maintain this right angle relationship a portion of the triangle member 6 may be apertured as at 10, one side of said aperture strip 7 and the member 6. The portion cut from the aperture 10 may be folded horizontally, forming a tongue 11, the outer end of which may engage a notched portion of the aperture 10 and mayserve as a lock to preserve the right angle relationship between the member 6 and the strip 7. V

A spacing strip 12 may be "rigidly mounted upon the rear-faceof the upper portion of the card 1 and may carry a portion of a snap member 13. The co-operating half of said member maybe mounted upon the upper portion of the strip '7. In this manner the card 1, when indisplay position, may be joined to the easel, both at the central portion and at the upper portion, the

central portion being a permanent connection, whereas the upper portion may be removably joined.

A strip 14 similar to the strip 12 may be ni'ounted upon the lower rear face of the card land may contain a half portion of a snap13. The other half portion of said snap may be posi-' tioned upon the lower end of the strip 1 7'. In this manner the easel 5 may have three points of contact with the'rear face ofthe 'card'l; that is, a point of contact may be maintained with each of the sections 4. g

The display card and its supporting easel, when in knock-down'position, may be folded as shown in Fig. To fold the card this manner the tongue 11 may be released from its position within the aperture'lO. The snaps 13 at both the upper and lower ends of the strip '7 may be disengaged and the triangular portion 6 of the easel may be folded longitudinally into a plane coincident with the plane of the strip 7. The'upper portion of the easel 5 may then be folded backwardly; that is, away from the rear surface of the card 1, and may occupy a position adjacent the central portion of the easel. The upper section 4 of the card may be folded forwardly along the score line 3, andmay occupy a position parallel and adjacent the central section 4 of the card '1. The lower portion of the easel 5 may also be folded backwardly along score line 9 and may occupy a position adjacent and substantially parallel to the central portion of the easel.

The lower section l of the'card 1 may be folded forwardly along a score line 3 and may 1150 oc cupy a position adjacent the central section: 4, similar to the position occupied by the upper section 4. In this manner the entire display may be folded withinsubst-antially the dimensions of one of the sections l.

It is to be understood, of course, that the card 1 may be utilized with substantially any type easel, and also that the easel shown and described forms no part of the present invention,

except in so far as it may co-operate with a display card provided with a plurality of horizontal score lines, said score lines appearing on the same face of the card. It is also to be understood that although an embodiment of my invention has been shown and described utiliz- 7 ing score lines which appear on the rear face easel 5, and may be joined permanently at its central portion to the central section 4 of the card 1. The easel 2 may be scored horizontally at itslower portion along the line 9f. The triangular portion of the easel 2' may be provided with an aperture 10, the material cut from which may take the form of a tongue 11, which may be utilized to maintain a right angle relationship betweenthe easel -2'- and the card 1; y

The. strip 7' may beapertured at this upper portion as'shown best at 15, and a tab 16 permaan outline similar to the shape of the aperture 15 may be adapted to register with said aperture when the display card proper is in display position. A second tab 1'7 may be pivotally mounted upon the tab 16, and may be of similar shape to said latter tab. The pivotal connection between the two tabs may comprise a pin 18. At the point of juncture of the strip '7' and the upper portion of the triangular member comprising the supporting portion of the easel a slot' 19 may be provided, into which one end of the tab 1'7 may be' adapted to swing when the display card proper is in display position. In this manner the'upper portion of the easel may be securely attached to the rear face of the card 1'. g g

Referring particularly to Figs. 6 and 8, a display card i" may be supported by an easel 2".

To fold-the display card 1" and the easel 2" for purposes of shipping or the like, thebuttons or snaps 14 may be disengaged. Theupper portion of the rectangular strip 7 may be per-V manently attached totheuppersection 4" and the lower portion of the strip T7" may be permanently attached to the lower section 4", but the central portion of the strip 7" may be maintained independent of positivecontact with the central section l. When thesnaps 14; have been disengagedfrom each other, the tongue 11" may be folded upwardly out of: operative contact with the definingedges of 10", and said tongue may be disposed in a plane substantially parallel to the rear face of the lower section 4". The triangular members 5 of the easel 2 may then be folded into a plane coincident to the plane of the rectangular strip 7", andthe upper halves of the triangular members 5" and strip 7" may be folded upwardly along the score line 8" and may occupy a position adjacent to and substantially parallel to that portion of the easel 2' in contact with the section 4". In a similar manner the remaining portion ofthe easel 2 joined together by the snaps or buttons 14' may be folded downwardly along the score line 9", and may occupy a position adjacent to and parallel with that portion of the easel aflixed to the lower section 4". The card 1" may then be folded along the upper score line 3" until the front face portion of the upper section lies in a plane parallel to and adjacent the front face portion of the central section. The lower section 4 of the card 1" may be folded upwardly and may be disposed in a plane substantially parallel to the planes of the upper section and the central section and the face of the lower section 4" may lie adjacent the rear face of the upper section 4". In this manner the entire display card may be folded within the dimensions of one section 4".

I claim as my invention:

A foldable display card comprising in combination, a display card dividedby a plurality of adjacent horizontal score lines upon a single face of the card into a plurality of connected sections, and an easel permanently attached to alternate sections of said display card, to that face thereof having the score lines, to support said card in relatively flat display position, said easel being provided with fold lines adjacent said score lines and being separably connected intermediate its length between said alternate sections.
